New Outlook ignores the "default from address". Always uses the mail account you were last viewing.
TL;DR: When you click a mailto: link or use a share button in your web browser, New Outlook for Windows ignores your "default from address" and uses whichever mail account you were last viewing. The Issue: Whenever one comes from an external app to start an email, like the "Share" button in the web browser or just clicking a mailto: link on a webpage, the New Outlook creates a new draft message. But for the "From" address, it completely ignores the "Default from address" (Settings > Mail > Sync email) and automatically uses the email account one happens to be viewing at that moment. This is a problem. It creates a risk of sending stuff from the wrong account. Furthermore, one can't even change the "From" address in the new draft. Unlike in Classic Outlook, where one can just click a simple dropdown and pick the right account, the "From" field in New Outlook cannot be changed. You're forced to go through this tedious process: Delete the wrongly created draft. Go back to the main New Outlook mail window and manually click on the inbox of the account you actually want to send from. Go back to the webpage or app you want to share or send a message from and click the link or share button again. It's such a clunky workaround for something that used to be a one-second fix. It's a downgrade in usability. The Solution: All New Outlook needs to do is respect the setting that already exists: the new email draft should always default to the account that's set as the "Default from address" under Settings > Mail > Sync email. And like Classic Outlook, New Outlook should allow us to easily change the From-address while composing any new mail message.0Views0likes0CommentsA major step backwards: Classic Outlook vs. New Outlook on changing the "From" sending account
The Issue: In New Outlook, changing the "From" address after you have already started composing an email message opens a new, blank message window, forcing you to copy and paste your original message subject, contents, and attachments. This is an irritating change from Classic Outlook, where you could simply switch the sending account from a dropdown menu while keeping your drafted message fully intact. Expected behavior: When changing the "From" address while composing a mail message, it should simply be updated to the newly selected account, and the body, subject line, and any attachments of the message you are writing at that time should be preserved within the same composition window. The Classic Outlook Way (The Right Way) to Switch the "From" address: For years, my workflow in Classic Outlook has been simple. I click "New Email." The new message window opens, and the "From" field shows the currently selected account. I start writing my message. Then I realize I wanted to send it from another mail account. I click the "From" button, and a dropdown menu appears with all my accounts. I pick the one I want, and I'm good to go. The message content is untouched, it's all still there. Changing the From-address is a two-second action that is intuitive and efficient. The "New Outlook" Way (The Baffling Way) to Switch the "From" address: Now, I try to do the exact same thing in the "New Outlook." I click "New Email." The new message window opens, and the "From" field shows the currently selected account. I start writing my message. Then I realize I wanted to send it from another mail account. I click the "From" button, and a dropdown menu appears with all my accounts. I pick the one I want. But then, after choosing a different From-address, a completely blank new message is opened. And I have to copy/paste everything from the message window I was writing in before to the newly opened message window. So annoying! This feels like a classic case of simplifying the UI to the point where it loses critical functionality. What used to be a simple dropdown selection in Classic Outlook is now an irritating multi-step process in New Outlook. It seems to be an intentional design choice, but it's one that ignores the reality of how users with multiple mail accounts actually work.2Views0likes0CommentsGmail workspace and new Outlook sync problems
Hi there, We are a hybrid Office 365 (desktop apps, intune, defender) and Google workspace (emails, files, calling). we have been using Google outlook (GWSMO) for years and it has always been problematic. late in 2024 we were happy that classic outlook can connect to gmail using oauth2 natively without using the addin, but calendar synch and contacts synch did not exist. Earlier this year we were happy that the new outlook has solved this problem and started to migrate our users to the new outlook from may 2025. Really happy about that. Our outlook version currently is: Microsoft Outlook Version: 1.2025.806.300 (Production) Client Version: 20250822005.29 WebView2 Version: 139.0.3405.125 What we have been noticing recently is that some users are getting delayed emails that can be a couple of hours. We have also noticed that when toggling offline mode to off (or on) they are getting delivery errors saying it cannot be delivered. after a few attempts it goes through but a draft copy stays in the outbox. We have seen a similar issue in a forum about delayed email here and we will try the options given as well doing the obvious by pressing the sync button: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/new-outlook-not-syncing-with-gmail-no-error/e97349d3-27dc-4313-b905-2657b0a36784 what I would like to do is see if we can get the logs from outlook for connections. Does anyone know where that is stored?185Views0likes9CommentsCan't Sign in to Outlook Desktop
I can login online to the Microsoft outlook 365 website, but anytime I try to login to outlook on my computer I get the following error Correlation Id: eb05cb77-8e26-4f1c-98ee-4352a91be1a1 Timestamp: 2025-08-27T16:11:44.000Z DPTI: f2683321ce09c3d50486ee69cad024321807b8f882cc004862660fed8a7a8557 Message: An unexpected error occurred. Tag: 7ita9 Code: 3399811147 . This issue started when Windows asked me to change my password. Normally it would have asked me to log back in but instead I got this error over and over again. I've uninstalled 365 (The app and the classic version) and reinstalled it. I've restarted my computer and still not able to login. I've asked our IT admin but he hasn't been able to solve it as of yet. I figured I'll post here and see if anyone has had any experience with this.94Views0likes1CommentOutlook can't receive emails except after restart
I'm using Outlook 2016 on Windows 11. I have three IMAP email accounts, all through AOL. When I click Send/Receive, Outlook successfully does sends on all three accounts, and receives on two of the three, but then hangs without receiving the emails from the third account. If I switch to a different email account, this triggers a synchronization. If I then switch back to the problem account, there is no synchronization. However, if I then restart Outlook and do another Send/Receive, sends and receives work for all three accounts. This means that every time I want to check for emails from my third email account, I have to first restart Outlook. Although I may have noticed this issue on very rare occasions over the last year or so, it didn't start happening consistently until August 29, 2025. Now it happens almost every time. Out of well over a dozen tries, it has only not happened twice. (That is, there were two occasions when the emails were received correctly without a restart.)25Views0likes1CommentSubject: Unable to Access Microsoft Account - Recovery Attempts Failing (Error 0x80048820)
Hi all, Currently, we're facing an urgent issue regarding a high-priority user at our company who lost access to their Outlook email account approximately 2 months ago. This account contains critical information for the business, and despite numerous attempts, we've been unable to regain access. Issue Description: The affected user has tried several times to recover the account via Microsoft's password recovery process. While the verification code does successfully arrive at the designated recovery email, it fails to work when entered, even on the very first attempt. Additionally, we've encountered several error messages during the recovery and login attempts: - Something went wrong (Error 0x80048820) - Too many tries, please try again tomorrow (when recovering via email verification code) - Outlook cannot connect you right now - This task is temporarily unavailable due to too many incorrect password attempts - Too many requests - Using phone: You’ve tried too many codes today, please try again tomorrow (appearing on the first or second attempt) Troubleshooting Steps Taken: We’ve already attempted the following fixes: - Synchronizing the PC’s time and date settings - Using wreset.exe to reset the Microsoft store connection - Disabling the firewall - Resetting the Internet Explorer connection options - Trying to log in using a VPN - Attempting login from a different device - Logging in via InPrivate browsing - Clearing browser cache and cookies Unfortunately, none of these approaches have resolved the issue. All related screenshots of the errors are available in Portuguese (Brazilian) if needed. Request for Help: Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have suggestions for additional troubleshooting steps we could try? We're open to any advice as this issue has become critical for our operations. Thank you in advance for your assistance!30Views0likes1CommentOutlook Search loses focus
Using O365 current version When clicking in the Search Box in the Title bar, cursor often loses focus and does not remain in the search bar and query is lost. Work around/Solution ( after considerable angry words ) is to click in the search box and wait to verify it remains in the box before typing the search. In my past experience when using the stand-alone version of Outlook, using rules to forward emails to another user the email forwarded would show up in my Sent Items. I like this feature as it allowed me to verify the rule was working and for historical purposes. I'm now using Windows 10 Outlook and that feature is not working. Email sent are showing up in my Sent Items, It only Email sent by a rule is not showing up. Is this by design, a configuration issue? I have an elderly client who uses outlook.com in a browser for their msn email. All of a sudden, auto complete no longer works so when they start type an email address on the To line, no suggestions pop up. I verified this occurs on multiple browsers across multiple computers. I also verified this does not occur with one of my outlook accounts when I log into outlook.com and try it there, so it seems somewhat isolated to their account. I tried exporting all their contacts, then deleting them all, adding only one to see if it was an issue with malformed data, and it still does not work. Using built in browser debugging tools, I can see that when you type on the To line, 401 (Unauthorized) errors start to populate in the debugger trying to access the URL https://outlook.live.com/search/api/v1/suggestions I can still click the To button and get the contacts list and add them from there, but this is not ideal, as this individual is going to struggle with trying to learn new methods and this method is several more clicks than just typing a few letters in the To line to auto complete. Are there any other suggestions that I could try? I can't seem to find anything about this in my searches so I don't believe it to be a widespread issue.26Views1like1CommentUnable to save Outlook attachment to long path location
Need help, I have logistics and engineering clients that are not able to save attachments from MS Outlook due to long character limit, getting error like 'File name is not valid' or 'You can't save here'. All solution I find is for copying files but not for saving attachments using MS outlook. OS: Windows 10 Windows 11 Issue replication steps: I created a shared folder. Added nested sub folders. Solutions tried but not working: Restarted the PC. Ran Windows update and Microsoft update. Online repair MS office. Uninstalled and installed MS office. Modified registry and restarted the PC. I also noticed that if you clicked on the deepest folder (test folder 3), it's giving a randomized characters shown in below screenshots. Not accepted Solutions as Apple / Mac users are able to save using MS Outlook: Shorten/rename folder name and file name. Save in local drive and move to shared folder. WORKAROUND: Open the Windows explorer and go to the deepest / long path folder. Back to email and select all attachments. Drag and drop the attachments to the shared folder (deep folder path). Note: Clients are not satisfied with the workaround as they want to do the normal process. test folder 2 test folder 31.1KViews0likes1CommentMass emails
Good afternoon, I help manage an organization for Special Needs Children and Adults. We sponsor adapted Sports activities as a way to build relationships, teach teamwork, and self-esteem. I set up a separate email for the group from which I am attempting to send group emails. These emails go to anywhere from 50 to 250 users. I manage the list outside of Outlook: I create character strings of email addresses using excel and paste them into the BCC: line in Outlook. I am using the new Outlook. Recently, that user (an outlook.com user) is blocked frequently and I have to go in and revalidate it. The message I get says I am violating the usage rules, but it does not tell me how. I was going to look at a CRM system, but that adds a ton of baggage: all is want to do is send emails. Does anyone have any ideas for how to accomplish what I am trying to do? I have names and addresses in an excel file and if I knew how I could do a mass import into Outlook. I would do that if it would fix the problem. I would appreciate any input. Without any request for user consent, Microsoft has downgraded Outlook today in a way that has wholly wrecked my ability to use the programme. No visibility of emails other than immediate past, no functioning way to change this (changing settings for the unrequested, useless "focused inbox" does not work); no toggle switch (as Microsoft claims there is) to revert to classic Outlook; and, of course, no access to user support. So, is there any guidance available on this site on how to make Outlook usable again, or do I simply have to find another email programme?27Views1like0CommentsLost Outlook Password!
Speaking for a friend (REALLY)... She had an outlook.com account for some time that she used very infrequently. She rarely used email. Last week she deleted a trial Office 365 account in preparation of installing Office Home & Student. She didn't want to confuse the two. In the process she deleted Outlook (in 365) and along with it, her account. She does not remember her password. We've filled out the Outlook verification form but she can't provide "enough" information to satisfy the verification. She can come up with two people she has emailed recently but can't provide the exact "Subject Line Entry". Microsoft has turned down her verification. She now needs it as she made a purchase and the access link is in an email to her outlook.com account. Is there any other way to verify her as the owner of the account? How does Microsoft expect her to know the subject line entry of past email accounts? Obviously she should have kept a copy of her password but she wasn't thinking ahead, like so many other. My client emailed me. I replied, saying 'see replies in GREEN'. Then I went through his email and replied with green text. The client, who is using NEW OUTLOOK, saw the header 'see replies in GREEN'.... but never the replies! Then, if he double-clicks on the email, it opens in a pop-up and he can see the replies! Seriously, the new outlook has too many problems and no clear advantage.12Views0likes0CommentsOutlook for Mac: Unable to send message immediately
Hi, Since this morning, Outlook (Microsoft 365 version updated to the latest version) no longer allows me to send email messages immediately, but only offers the "schedule sending" option. Furthermore, it doesn't allow me to schedule the sending for today, but only for tomorrow. The version of Outlook used is the Legacy version. This problem does not occur on the "current" version. I have already tried restarting both outlook and the entire system, but the situation has not changed. The problem does not occur using the web version of Outlook.1.2KViews0likes2CommentsProblem saving emails in New Outlook
Our company's CRM doesn't allow dragging emails directly from Outlook into case notes, so I have to save every email to my computer and then drag it into the case note. Problem: New Outlook seems to save everything as an eml file which the CRM doesn't recognise as a thing. I can't figure out how to save an email except by choosing print, pdf, and half a dozen clicks to get it onto my computer where I can then drag it. This loses access to any attachments that were with the original email so is not satisfactory. Any ideas? What am I missing (besides old Outlook which worked so much better)...19KViews3likes11Comments
