How to get around clearing sorting filters after a folder has been opened?
One of the greatest issues our staff has had is using the sorting views in SharePoint. Let's say the view is sorting folders based on Status:Active. When they open that folder, if the value for those files / folders in that folder aren't also Active, the folder apperas empty (with an easily overlooked tag indicating the applied filter). While I understand the logic behind why this happens, I can not oversate how horrendous this is as a user expereince. It should be either that the view is locked to a root folder path or the view is cleared out whenever another fodler is selected. Or, there may be some other function here I'm not aware of.Anthony-123Feb 18, 2025Iron Contributor5Views0likes0CommentsLocking the Default view
I don't know how this keeps happening but everytime I change the default view for a directory it keeps changing to something else. It's driving me mad and it's confusing our users. As the admin, I need to be able to create a view, save it as default, and prevent anyone from changing it. I would love others to create their own views and to make them public - I just need the default view to remain locked.Anthony-123Feb 18, 2025Iron Contributor3Views0likes0CommentsWhat is '_ip_UnifiedCompliancePolicyUIAct'
Our PowerAutomate workflow has broken due to an error that reads: Column '_ip_UnifiedCompliancePolicyUIAct' does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user. This is not a column that has ever existed, to my knowledge. The action in this workflow is copying a folder from one site to another. I've created a new flow that just copies the folder and I'm getting the same error. When I try to manually copy the folder in SharePoint I get an error that "something went wrong". In both cases, the folder does copy to the destination. It's just that the flow is failing. I've created the column _ip_UnifiedCompliancePolicyUIAct in both the source and desitnation folder and this appears to resolve the issue. No data is found in the column.Anthony-123Feb 18, 2025Iron Contributor10Views1like0CommentsSharepoint site synced via file explorer regularly disconnects without errors
We have an issue with one particular sharepoint site in our organisation, where, seemingly randomly, it stops syncing on user devices. No errors, nothing, just the cloud icons disappear and it's no long in sync, until you go and re-sync it. This is happening on only one site, but has happened on 10+ different devices over the past month or so. The site in question only has about 6k files in it, it's about 30gb. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this? Currently how I'm finding out about it is a user contacts me with "Bob is saying he can't see the file I save in XYZ folder but I saved it in there over a week ago". I go an look and can't see the file, check their machine and it's stopped syncing that same site, resync it and it works again for maybe a month.alexbnzFeb 18, 2025Copper Contributor85Views2likes2CommentsSharePoint folder is in two locations on local machine creating sync conflicts
Hello, I've got a folder that invertedly (now clue how) ended up in the root folder of the SharePoint on my local Windows. I have no idea how it ended up here. It’s causing several problems: This folder is mirroring a folder that is already inside the SharePoint Documents library when I have SharePoint opened via browser. (see two screenshots below) How is that possible that a folder is in two locations at the same time? 2. This, in turn, is causing sync issues with the Documents folder, as the above folder also exists in the legitimate Documents folder (I guess creating a sync conflict between two locations?) 3. When I try to move the problematic folder, I can't, I get an error, as the folder is in use (I guess by the OneDrive client that makes the sync?) 4. This folder on the SharePoint Root, I can't find on SharePoint online. It’s not visible, as I can only access the Document library in SharePoint online (and not the overarching folder?) How can I untangle this mess and restore the correct hierarchy and sync? What are the best steps to fix?ABrandtFeb 18, 2025Copper Contributor32Views0likes2CommentsModern PnP Search Web parts
Hi, I've recently built a SharePoint Online based People Finder Tool for my Company using the Modern PnP Search Web Parts. It is working fine, apart from one annoying glitch that I can't seem to find a solution to. If a colleague searches for another colleague by last name (e.g. Smith, Wilson) it returns results as expected. But if a colleagues searches for another colleague using a last name that is also a common English word (e.g. Black, Brown, Snow, Blow, White) it returns no results. Unless a comma is placed after the name (i.e. Black, or Snow,) in which case it returns results as expected. The same behaviour isn't happening on a Teams search, so it's specific to the PnP Web Part for some reason. I am tearing my hair out trying to find a cause and/or solution. If anyone has come across it and can help it will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.Matt9915Feb 18, 2025Copper Contributor62Views0likes4CommentsMicrosoft Lists not allowing creation of new item
For more than a few days now when clicking on the [+ Add New Item] button it does nothing. Looking at the Console I see it producing the error shown below. I've tried incognito mode with no help on Edge and Chrome on Win 11pro... 5 other users on different machines are experiencing the same thing. Anyone else experiencing this or know if this is a known issue being worked on? Thanks!PGOFeb 18, 2025Copper Contributor161Views5likes13CommentsNumbering and bullets in Word docs keep disappearing
When working as a team on Word files within SharePoint, I constantly have problems with things like heading numbering disappearing (or changing from numbers to bullets), bullets going missing or bullets turning into numbers. From what I can see, the custom list styles in the documents go missing. Other formatting things happen, like table column widths messing up. I can fix it all, PDF it, save and close, and when I open the Word doc again it's all gone haywire once more. I was always approaching this from a Word bug perspective, but maybe it's something I'm doing wrong in regard to SharePoint. Essentially, this is my workflow: 1. Create Word template. 2. Create documents from Word template (bid response schedules, one for each). 3. Upload all files to SharePoint. At this point, the template resides on my computer, in my OneDrive folder. As I understand it, this shouldn't be an issue because unless people play around with what template the document is linked to, it shouldn't change. However, often I found that the template had reverted back to "Normal". So, I started saving the template in a location on SharePoint (along with the documents) and making sure it was linked to it. When the document styles go haywire, to fix it all I need to do is link back to the template and update the styles. I have a macro that has the location of the template hard coded, and it links the document to the template, updates the styles, then turns off the checkbox again. (Note: I always make sure the "update styles from template" is kept off). Whether the template is on my computer or on SharePoint, once the styles start messing up they will continue to keep messing up, so putting the template on SharePoint doesn't seem to have fixed it. I'm outlining this process because all the forum posts I've found seem to treat SharePoint more as a space where templates are uploaded and people use the "New" button to create and then save documents straight into SharePoint from Templates that are uploaded into the site library. This is obviously not how we are using it: these Teams sites are created per project, we do our submission and then move on. I'm the only one creating documents and other people contribute to them. Is there something I'm doing fundamentally wrong and that's why these issues happen? If not, has anyone seen this issue and worked out what causes it?AndrewB_33334Feb 18, 2025Copper Contributor81KViews5likes82CommentsSharePoint search results showing for those without permission to the documents
We have documents in a restricted SharePoint library that are appearing in searches (at both the site and organization level) for users who do not have access to the library. The users aren't able to actually open the documents, but seeing the titles and even a brief blurb in the search results is enough of a security breach for us. I reached out to M365 Support and they advised going to Library settings > Advanced settings > Search and toggling the 'No' option for the restricted document library. However, this restricts the documents in the restricted library from being searchable entirely, even those who should have access, which is obviously not ideal. Does anyone know if this is normal behaviour, or how to troubleshoot?KellyL1015Feb 18, 2025Copper Contributor156Views0likes7Comments
