File sync recommendations?
I just have a bunch of HDDs that I mostly don't use. It's mostly media and files (~2TB) I will never modify. I can copy the data, but I won't know when something becomes corrupted. It's not super critical so I'm not investing in 3-2-1 backup philosophy. Basically, I imagine the software mirroring the HDD to another location, and the software also ensures files are identical and flags potential corruption for review, or even just repairs it on the go. Backup solutions with servers confuse me. I don't think sync options like Rsync will do anything to flag corruption. Just hoping for some opinions or recommendations. I'm running Windows 10, but also drive Linux a lot and will be transitioning this PC soon, so Linux and CLI recommendations are also welcome. Cheers.PhillipforyuApr 30, 2026Copper Contributor13Views0likes0CommentsHow to make my computer run like new on Windows 10
Hello all, My Windows PC used to run great, but lately it feels much slower than it did when it was new. Boot time is longer, programs take more time to load, and the whole system just feels less responsive. Looking for advice on how to make a computer run like new again on Windows 10. Open to cleanup tips, maintenance steps, software tools, or hardware upgrades if they would help. Prefer solutions that are safe and not overly complicated. Any recommendations would be appreciated.IzannkiApr 30, 2026Brass Contributor67Views0likes8CommentsNeed help after hardware upgrade on Windows 10
So I just tonight upgraded some of my hardware in my old rig. I was running an msi b450 gaming plus max and a ryzen 7 3600x. Tonight I swapped it out with a new msi b550 tomahawk max wifi (got it on marketplace for $140 Cad) and a new ryzen 7 5800xt. Everything is hooked up, it powers on, but I get a BOOTMGR IS MISSING, PRESS CTRL ALT DEL. Everything is hooked up, I thought I had my drives hooked up in order? I went into the bios and adjusted the boot to go off of what I think is my main drive. Still an issue. I'm still using windows 10, booting in LEGACY, NOT UEFI, my c drive is still mbr. It was working without issue before I did the upgrade.IdrisooApr 30, 2026Copper Contributor28Views0likes0CommentsPerformance issues in Overwatch
It's my first time trying linux so I installed CachyOs on my laptop. I tried playing overwatch via steam like I do on Windows 10 which runs at like 45 fps, my problem is that with the same config it runs at 15 fps on CachyOs. As a first-time linux user I wanted to know if there's a way to get better performance or that's just the way it is for me. Thankfully my laptop isn't my main gaming computer but wanted to give it a shot anyway.IssacoinApr 30, 2026Brass Contributor12Views0likes0CommentsEarly Microsoft CD-ROM - 1986 1st Int'l CD-ROM Conference Demo Disc | ebay
Hi all, longtime LGR fan, first time posting here... I couldn't find any rules saying that ebay links aren't allowed, and saw others posting them here, so hopefully this is allowed. Anyway, I came across an early Microsoft CD-ROM that I can't find any other examples of online. I see a handful of period mentions of it, but it shares artwork with a (readily available) book that was published by Microsoft at the same time called "The New Papyrus." It appears to be a demo of an encyclopedia. As far as I can tell, this is about a year before Microsoft's first official commercially released CD-ROM, which LGR did a video about awhile back, so it presumably has some historical value. I was unable to get this disc to mount on my windows 10 machine, so I decided to put it up for grabs in case someone far geekier than me wants to take a stab at it.KirchhofftApr 30, 2026Copper Contributor16Views0likes0CommentsHow do I get the exact bounding box of an organic mesh and create a cube from it?
This may be a weird ask, but I'm trying to place a pivot at an exact center point based on Suzanne’s overall bounds. The squares in the screenshot are just guides to visualize it from top and front views. What I’m trying to represent is a 3D setup where there would be two layers of four boxes, so eight total, and I want the pivot to sit exactly at the center of that full volume. (The middle of the red circle in the image) I need to create a vertex in the middle of the cyan circle, but I’m not sure what the most accurate way to do that is. This is also exporting elsewhere so that's why I need the vertex there and not the red circle. If I did want to pivot this in the way I want in blender then I would make the origin in the middle of the red circle. Is there a way to get the exact bounding box of Suzanne? I need it to be mathematically precise. I want to avoid hand guessing it by resizing a cube over it. But once I get that bounding box I assume I will be able to array it to be the 4x4x2 structure and save the vertex where I need.NerfftApr 30, 2026Copper Contributor10Views0likes0CommentsTrojan in OBS of Windows 10 computer
Ran a full scan on windows defender today and got an alert for a Trojan inside of OBS. I looked around because I thought it'd be an odd place for a trojan and I don't really stream I mostly just use it for screen recording things now and then. Everything I've found on this has been vague I've seen some posts guessing its a false positive and others not sure. I ran a second opinion scan as is suggested a lot on here with Malware bytes. It found \GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR\GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR\DATA\MUSIC\TOOLS\HELIX.EXE, Quarantined, 1000000, 0, 1.0.109136, 8061488964A2C803DD84BD77, dds, 03852364, D5370AE9824EFC4F1755C169C0900617, 19264156BB405376F8B20194DA91E6C41C362CF8773253B8DD8DDF1DF287AF22 Apparently some guitar hero file from 2 years ago was malicious. I uploaded it to virus total and 12/61 flagged as malicious. I also uploaded the windows defender detected file on to Virus total and 7/61 security vendors flagged it as malicious (Alicloud, Avast, AVG, Cynet, Google, Ikarus, Rising). Not sure what to do here as I'm pretty worried now. Part of me is ready to just wipe my desktop. Already deleted both files. Thank you for any help!ZillmannApr 30, 2026Copper Contributor96Views0likes0CommentsBest PC manager on windows 10 for disk cleanup and optimization
Hi everyone, my Windows 10 PC has become noticeably slower over the past few months, and I suspect it may be due to junk files, startup clutter, and other system buildup over time. I do basic cleanup here and there, but it doesn’t seem to make much difference anymore. I've been looking into different PC manager / optimization tools that can help with disk cleanup, startup management, and general performance tuning, but there are so many options that it's hard to know which ones are actually useful versus just bloatware. What is the best PC manager for Windows 10 if my main goals are cleaning up disk space, removing junk files, and improving overall performance? Preferably something safe, reliable, and easy to use for someone who isn't very technical.
LawrenceppApr 29, 2026Copper Contributor81Views0likes10Comments
