Windows 10 - Can you choose folder columns specific to folders?
This is one that's been eluding me, or maybe it's not possible. There should definitely be an ability to have the column headers (and therefore the columns) shown specific to either the folder or the folder type. There are generally, in my experience, literally scores of available columns that can be displayed and you can rearrange them, i.e. the order shown left to right. However, usually all you see are Name, Date Modified, Type, Size. Some folders contain files that beg for a much more varied and interesting set of columns. For instance, music files I want to see length. Length has no meaning for most files. I keep encountering this. To find Length in the list of available columns when there are like 100 available is a hassle and I don't want to keep having to add it. Plus there are a ton of other attributes I might want shown. What am I missing?ThomasKingSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor9Views0likes0CommentsWindows 10 failing to check for updates. any way to update manually?

Not a tech savvy for image editing. The problem is that I have hundreds of photos are in low quality. Some of them are even blurred when pulling off from my old backup drive. I heard the AI image enhancer could be a great fit nowadays. Is this true? I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable free AI image enhancing tool. What solutions have you found effective for sharpening blurry pictures or increasing the size of an image without losing quality? I'm particularly interested in tools that are user-friendly and deliver consistent, high-quality results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.JedidiahinSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor46Views0likes7CommentsHow to uninstall PAE Patch for XP?
I tried installing the "WinXP-PAE-Patch" and while it appeared to work, it causes my machine to BSOD with "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" after opening a few programs. I have run Memtest6+ and it passed 2 passes with 0 errors, plus Windows 10 ran fine, albeit slowly, on this machine. The problem I have is, without the PAE patch, Windows XP is only able to use 2.5GB of the 4GB RAM. Whereas the PAE Patch let me use all 3.75GB (as I have allocated to the X1200 in the BIOS). Is there a way of uninstalling this patch? There is no documentation for this and I can't find the supposed backup. I did try another PAE patch before this, and that kept causing a black screen instead of a BSOD. Thanks!JesusGarciaSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor9Views0likes0CommentsI am looking for update files for the Korean version of Microsoft Windows 95/NT4
Windows Update Restored does not have update files for the Korean version of Win95 and NT4, and even Internet Archive only preserves some languages, including the English version. I was wondering if anyone has an update file for the Korean version of Win95/NT4.ElijahWoodSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor10Views0likes0CommentsWindows NT 4.0 Unattended from CD?
With Windows 2000/XP, if I want to run an unattended installation directly from CD/ISO, all I need is to add the WINNT.SIF to the i386 folder. If I do this with Windows NT 4.0, it just crashes with BSOD 0x1E "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED", Address blah blah blah setupdd.sys, after the text mode welcome screen, right before trying to setup the partition. The only workaround I found so far is adding a Windows 95 boot floppy as a boot sector (like in Windows 98/Me CDs) which in turn sets up a FAT16 partition with GDisk, then after a reboot, copies the answer file to C: and runs WINNT.EXE /B /U:C:\UNATTEND.TXT /S:%CDROM%\i386. I would prefer to use the text mode setup to prepare the partition since it's cleaner and just better than using a clumsy batch file and external commands. Can this not be done, or am I messing something up?HaydenMillerSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor7Views0likes0CommentsHow can I directly upgrade Windows XP to Windows 10?
Hello everyone, I need some help on upgrading my older computer that is currently running Windows XP. I understand that Windows XP has been unsupported for many years, and I want to move to a more secure and updated operating system, specifically Windows 10. As far as I know, a direct "in-place" upgrade is not officially supported by Microsoft. Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 10 was never designed to work this way due to the vast architectural differences between the systems. However, I would like to know the correct and recommended procedure to achieve this transition. My goal is to end up with a working Windows 10 on the same hardware, preferably while preserving my personal files. Could the community please outline the necessary steps?MarciaFudgeSep 23, 2025Iron Contributor41Views0likes6CommentsWin 10 Open Folders - Cache
I was hoping the 23H2 update would fix my problem, but it did not. I have the same (4) folders always open on my desktop, and file explorer (explorer) crashes several times a day. I click on any file, mouse cursor gets jittery and and floats around for a couple seconds, then all my folders are gone, explorer (desktop) goes blank for a couple seconds while the explorer resets. I'm hoping someone can give me a directory or registry location where windows maintains a file that shows what folders are open on the desktop. My hope is to save that file, then every time explorer crashes I can just copy/paste the BU file to that folder. Clean install of Win 11 pro (3) weeks ago after a mobo replacement, I've had this problem every since I built this PC in March, never had this issue in Win 10.HunterBellSep 22, 2025Iron Contributor9Views0likes0CommentsDoes media teck make any drivers for the preloader vcomm port function specifically for windows 10?
I constantly have the "waiting for vcomm port" message when trying to execute a large number of the functions offered in the SAMFW program no matter how many different times, or ways I install the drivers. Also, just to save redundant replies, I have also tried several different sources and as far as can tell i have selected the proper arm64 ones i require... however, i have done the download, install/uninstall in auto and manual modes so many times that I an honestly not even sure what ones I have where. Also, yes, I am going to completely delete everything I can see that says media teck from my P.C. storage and installed apps and installed drivers lists etc. because I have read that multiple old insulations may cause some errors or malfunctions... HOWEVER, with all that frustration bearing down on my blocked little mind, i don't really wish to process any further suggestions as to the mode or method of driver acquisition or installation until i have first shook some proverbial trees here within the community as to WICH DRIVERS I SHOULD DOWNLOAD AND FROM WHERE? Please keep in mind that I am running windows 10 ( it seems that all the descriptions I have read from any of the packages i have downloaded are through in listing several compatible windows versions. (from 7 and 8 to vista, 2k and 10) HOWEVER, I cannot truthfully say that i can recall seeing windows 10 specifically in any of the compatibility list an that is the cause for the specific nature of my question. I will gladly accept any further required direction in order to move forward but I only wish to dive into that entire process after I'm satisfied that I am in fact using the proper drivers to begin with. After that, any common pitfalls or discrepancies that can be brought to my attention so as I may correct them before proceeding will be greatly appreciated,MatthewGreenSep 22, 2025Iron Contributor13Views0likes0Comments
