I made Windows 10 look like Vista

Yeah so I went down a rabbit hole and ended up turning my Windows 10 install into a full-on Windows Vista clone. Not just a skin—I'm talking icons, cursors, sounds, the whole UI package. Even the system info in Control Panel now says "Windows Vista" for some reason, which I didn't even expect.

It's surprisingly complete and honestly kind of fun to use. Feels like stepping into a time machine.

That said, I'm wondering if this is gonna bite me later. I know some mods dig pretty deep into system files, and I'm not sure how well this plays with updates or long-term stability.

Anyone else done something like this? Any issues I should watch out for?

Just like the mod creator in one of the forum posts did, consider pausing updates until you're ready to test them. This gives you time to research if an update will break your setup.

  • You have not converted Windows 10 into Vista; the modified System page indicates that the customization changed resources, registry values, or protected components used to display branding. That is the part most likely to break after servicing. Confirm the operating system with winver and systeminfo, then create a file backup and, if available, a restore point. Install pending updates and verify that Settings, search, Start, and Windows Security still work. If branding remains altered or SFC repeatedly repairs files, restore to a point from before the modification or perform a repair reinstall. Prefer themes, icons, sounds, and cursors that do not patch system binaries. Also remember that normal Windows 10 suppor
