headers and footers

I opened a new Excel worksheet to make a simple spreadsheet.  I cannot figure out how to delete the headers and footers.  They come up automatically with the new document.  I see items about deleting  old hdrs/ftrs.  Thank you!

I added a header by mistake (with no text in it), but I can't figure out how to delete it/remove it.
