Top feedback summary for November 4

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hello insiders, and a special welcome to our Beta channel audience who received Microsoft Edge version 79 today!

This is our weekly update on the top feedback we are hearing from you via the Send feedback smiley. All the feedback you send us drives action on the team, including individual bug reports, quick feedback on the latest features, and ideas for the future. If you provide your email when you give feedback, you’ll usually get an email response to close the loop when the feedback has been addressed. However, for the topics we hear about the most often from the most people, we wanted to do something more, so back in August we started these weekly top feedback summaries. Here we tell you the status and plan for these top topics, and in some cases host discussions here in the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum to explore more with you.

Last week we started discussions about four topics (click to see and participate in the thread for each):

This week we had one bug with YouTube which generated a lot of feedback. The YouTube.com site wasn’t rendering properly and appeared extremely magnified. This bug is fixed in the latest Dev and Canary channel builds (and was never introduced in Beta). Let us know if you see any more issues here.

Also this week we have some new feedback to cover about sync capabilities. We’ve seen an increase in requests for both browsing history and extensions to sync between different devices. We’re pleased to say these are already planned for the near future. We expect them to arrive in the Dev and Canary channels in January at the latest.

Finally, we’re happy to announce the arrival of the OneNote Web Clipper in the extensions store, which was the top requested extension.

The full updated list is below . . . and this week we’re introducing an archive of previously addressed topics which you can find if you scroll all the way to the bottom.

Thanks, and see you next week!

@David Rubino

With this latest build Version 79.0.309.15, every time I visit https://www.verizon.com/?lid=//global//residential, then click on the 'sign in' drop down menu, then click on 'my verizon', the sign on window appears with my credentials filled in (since they are saved in my password setings). I click on 'sign in' and I am signed into the site. The new issue with this build is that after I click on sign in, the ‘save password’ popup window appears asking me if I want to update my password. The issue is, I didn’t make any changes to my saved password, so I should not be receiving this save password window prompt. Also this did not happen on previous builds.

Regards

@raysim52 I had a problem with passwords that somehow fixed itself somehow. I use my school account for word and office sites but my personal account for the insider community. When I hit sign in on beta, it showed the looking for other accounts page, but would not show my other account and automatically sign in even if I clicked sign in with another account. The only way to stop it from signing in automatically was to stop the page from loading. I couldn't find a way to add my personal account to the saved passwords page in settings.

After I clicked more ways to sign in, it stopped automatically signing in, but my school account is still my only one click option. I have to manually sign every time.

@David Rubino hardware acceleration is still bugged here. I don't know how to explain it well, but it's like the window "freezes", but only visually, the audio and when you moves your mouse cursor looks like it still fine, but the visual part is stuck. And if I resize the windows, everything turns black. Audio and mouse works as if it was fine, but it's not.

My GPU drivers and such are updated and Windows too. This started 3 or 4 builds ago. This stop happening if I turn hardware acceleration off. This doesn't happen with other Chromium-powered browsers. I'm using a 1080 TI and 8700K OC.

Version 79.0.309.15 (Official build) beta (64-bit) It appears that this version is much slower than previous versions. It takes 4 to 5 seconds for the home page to open, which is set to https://www.bing.com/. After I click the Icon to launch the browser, I notice statements in the bottom left corner of the Microsoft Edge Beta browser. The first statement I always see is ‘Downloading proxy script’. The second statement I see is not always the same. I have seen the following; 1. Receiving host 2. Connecting… 3. Waiting for cache 4. Waiting for www.bing.com 5. Resolving host 6. Establishing secure connection Sometimes there is a third statement; 7. Waiting for www.bing.com When I open the browser, it opens to a blank page with no URL After it goes through the two to three statements above it finally opens to https://www.bing.com/ which usually takes 4 – 5 seconds. The previous version worked much faster. The home page opened immediately when the browser was launched. Regards
hello

@kr500 I've been asking for this for months. I think their going to try to replace it with collections, but they have a lot of work to do before its a proper replacement.

@ikjadoon I love the name "Chromium Edge" as opposed to "Edge Chromium". It really owns the name "chromium" and makes it sound like an upgraded version of Chrome.

@David Rubino Please also handle tabs the way classic edge did.

When you have too many tabs open and have the browser on one side (as I often do) the tabs disappear and you have to go into a tab before being able to close it.

The old edge handled this so well and this would put chromium edge a step above the rest!

Fantastic work so far!

Microsoft always refers to the new Edge as "Edge" though, not Chromium Edge. the brand and official name is just Edge and I like that because you don't call opera the chromium opera after they switched to Chromium source or any other browser.
so there is no point in advertising for Chromium by putting that word next to Edge.
"Again, I need Chromium Edge to NOT close the menu when middle-clicking on a favourite in a favourites menu"

This is so annoying, it needs to be fixed ASAP.

@stark

HI Ann,

Could you please provide a picture (snip) of what you describe.  I cannot repro it as I understand you to mean.  Thanks.  And, do you mean from the Favs Bar or from the FS.jpg list or both?

Cheers,
Drew

Yeah it's really annoying and needs a fix, though I figured that when I hold down CTRL key and left click (normal click) on the favorites, the favorites menu is not closed and those favorites that I click on are opened in new tab.

Here is how to repro that,

Annotation 2019-11-14 144102.png

use either of them that I circled around

Middle Mouse button or right-clicking on favorites and selecting "open in a new tab", both of those actions cause the opened menu to be closed.

that's the problem that needs fixing.

@GrahamJockey Yes, we have been asking for scrollable tabs for a while now, as both Firefox and spartan edge have it. It hasn't made the list for things being considered yet, tho. If you want to specifically request this feature, try going here

Planned for now

bring back inking! - surface users and those who think visually can upgrade

long time

Planned for asap

inking on web pages with pressure - so that this future that couldn't be replicated with an extension on chrome
