Re: 4K smooth support- PDFs
OmegaMalkior I think one of the reasons that it did it so well was because Legacy Edge let windows do all the hard work, which is why the touchscreen scrolling isn't as good as it was in the last version. Edge probably used windows code that allowed it to prioritize tasks to maximize the frame rate, usually at 60 fps. Even when the frame rate slowed, Edge and Explorer managed to animate things smoothly regardless of how the browser was doing by (I assume) letting windows have control of that task. Trade secrets I assume. Microsoft said they wont add the code, or whatever sorcery they have to new edge because it has to run on more operating systems than just windows. I'm not sure why they don't just add it exclusively for the windows version and say that it works slightly better on windows, but they have their reasons.7.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Edge won't stay in fullscreen
cjc2112 I tested it on a few more. It is device related. I want to recommend the browser to some of my friends, but i wont if the browser wont go into fullscreen. I really hope a solution is found soon, because it's really annoying to watch videos without being able to go fullscreen. Here are the specs of our laptops if this helps. Pavlyukoff They got removed yesterday in an update and I am really disappointed. I lost all my tabs that were in the vertical layout and I was just starting to get used to the layout. I honestly don't know why they removed it. Edit: Its back now. Edit: Nope its gone Edit: Its back Edit: ... its missing yet again.10KViews0likes5CommentsRe: PDF Inking on Microsoft Edge
JacobZ2205 I'm sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with other things. Chromium is the source code from google that runs chrome, opera, edge, and brave. Making significant changes to the source code is like trying to insert a V8 into an electric car and switching it from electric motors to a traditional rotating metal driveshaft. Its a hard, time consuming, and expensive task that wont lead to optimal results since it is running on something it wasn't designed for. System 32 apps are Microsoft legacy app design (i think that's the best way to describe it). Its been in use since before Windows XP and most apps run it. UWP is Windows Universal Platform. It is a new and modernized design that was introduced in windows 8 and 10. Devs can make apps for Windows, Xbox, windows phone, and HoloLens in one place without having to change the code much. It also uses less battery and are better integrated into the operating system, so it can utilize more features and has more capabilities than the older System 32 apps. UWP apps haven't caught on because of a mistake during a demo that left people with the mistaken impression that UWP apps were watered down versions of system 32. Office apps are UWP as well as One Note and legacy Edge. Since Legacy Edge was UWP, it could utilize the pen behavior that Lenovo programed into windows. Chromium isn't UWP so it doesn't have the capability to do that like Legacy Edge. In order for that to happen, google would have to rewrite chrome as a UWP app, which wouldn't be bad, but they have no incentive to do so since they're fine with system 32 and have a massive lead in the browser market, and even more so including the chromium source code. Edit: Its UWP (Universal Windows Platform) not WUP. My bad. I changed the offenders.9.1KViews0likes1CommentRe: PDF Inking on Microsoft Edge
JacobZ2205 This sounds like a windows quirk. Your pen is (im assuming) from Lenovo? I have a school HP and stylus and it can distinguish on apps like one note because its from the same manufacturer as the laptop and hp designed it exclusively for windows HP products. Legacy edge was a WUP app, so thats probably why it worked there and not in the new system32 app. Unfortunately, the edge team is not willing to put in the work to make chromium a WUP app as that is a monumental task. Hopefully they will find a workaround.9.1KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Introducing sidebar search in Microsoft Edge
scrbl You can add your own search engine. Anytime you visit a website that could be used as a search engine, it adds an option. That also includes websites you don't think of as search engines such as Wikipedia, library of congress, and YouTube. You can also manually add one in. You can see which ones you have available here: edge://settings/searchEngines5.7KViews1like0CommentsRe: Weird tooltip appearing in Canary builds
Rohit Yadav I've had a similar problem where if I have a window open behind my current window, my mouse will create the toolbar thing, almost as if the current window is non-existent, over a button or something that creates them, except it won't disappear when the mouse moves until I open the window that caused it, in which case it will disappear like normal. One of the most frequent cases is the browser task manager, but that may be due to having an entire page that creates hover toolbars.1.3KViews0likes1CommentRe: Introducing sidebar search in Microsoft Edge
pbilk I use it extensively for school, since you get rewarded for memorization and reciting things quickly and then forgetting them until you need it again. You find a keyword, do ctrl+f, and find the info fast, copy and paste, find next word. I also use it to find conversations easier, like this one.5.1KViews0likes0Comments
