Table of contents bug - num list headings are on multiple lines in the TOC
I'm working on some documents with multiple headings and table of contents. As part of the formatting, most of the headings are numbered using the num list format, like so: However, a strange issue has been occurring where, when I set up the table of contents, some of these headings and subheadings spill over multiple lines in the table. I can't figure out why this might be—every heading has the same formatting as each other, and every subheading has the same formatting as each other, yet only some of the headings and subheadings experience this bug in the table of contents. Most are normal. See below for a simulated example of what I mean: As can be seen, the actual titles are on separate lines from the page numbers, and some of the numbers are on separate lines from their titles. The ideal format should be, say: "1.2 [Title] [leading dots] [page number]", all on the one line. I've had a look at the headings to see if there are any formatting or paragraph inconsistencies, but I can't find any. I'd like to get some help with figuring out what might be causing this issue. I apologise, I know this is a bit vague, but I really don't know how to explain it any other way. I'll appreciate any help you can offer, thank you.Rosalind_GOct 27, 2025Copper Contributor24Views0likes3CommentsUnicode characters conflation?
In the find and replace tool in Word (ctrl+H) I would like to replace the left single quotation mark [ ' = U+2018] with the upper left double quotation mark [ “ = U+201C] (to insert the Unicode values I use the hex value and Alt+X.). Yet, Word consistently replaces the latter with the lower left single quotation mark [ „ = U+201E]. Is this me doing something wrong, or is it a bug?Mark65Oct 27, 2025Copper Contributor23Views0likes2CommentsVBA Code/possible

Such as when click on table 1 it takes it to table 1. This is extensive review and many times we miss it. Every time I leave my word document open in my iPads and search for something and then get back to the document, it crashes, that is, it suddenly disappears. I did all the available suggestions to solve the problem including “clear all the documents,” “delete sing-in credentials,” and “reset cloud settings” in Setting of my iPads (11 and 12). I even deleted the app and downloaded it again. None of them worked. Of course, I don’t have the same problem with my old iPad, 10. That’s killing me.Martin64Oct 27, 2025Copper Contributor29Views0likes1CommentSpellcheck problem

I I am suddenly unable to jump from a hyperlink in Word to a PDF on the internet. I insert a hyperlink in Word that points to the online PDF. When I click on the link I get a message stating "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page." I have checked my Default App settings, and Adobe acrobat reader is associated with file type "pdf," as well as "URL: adobe acrobat." I also went into "Manage Extensions" in Chrome and made sure to select "Allow access to file URLs" within the Adobe Acrobat extension to Chrome. I can paste the url into a search bar in my browser and that works fine, but not as a hyperlink from within the Word document. This has happened suddenly on my desktop and my laptop. Any idea what the problem is?SolvedJim6373Oct 22, 2025Copper Contributor53Views0likes3CommentsI cannot select continuous words by dragging pointers
A week ago, I could not select words or sentences by dragging pointers. What I can do: double-click a word and it can be selected. Or I triple-click and I can select a whole paragraph. But I cannot exactly select what I want. Can any supporters help me solve the problem?scao010Oct 22, 2025Copper Contributor46Views0likes3CommentsAutocorrect "Replace text as you type" no longer working in comments
I'm a college English professor. I've been using MS Word's Reviewing features for years (decades?) to offer feedback on student essays. I mainly make bubble comments in the margins of the document (CMD-OPT-A or Insert > Comment). Until recently, my Autocorrect "Replace text as you type" feature was working in the comments (my fumbly fingers mistype things like "differnet" and I've even added some shortcuts like "dangmod" to "dangling modifier"). But as of maybe a few months ago, my comments no longer autocorrect. I haven't changed any settings, and the function works in the body text of the document. I have a 2023 Macbook Pro running Sequoia 15.7.1, and I'm using MS Word for Mac Version 16.101.3. Anybody have the solution for this? I've spent years training myself to use MS Word's Reviewing so I can be very efficient with my time (I know all the keyboard shortcuts, etc.), but if autocorrect no longer works, I'll probably just switch to Google Docs or something. Thanks for any help you can give.LosmaddenOct 21, 2025Copper Contributor62Views0likes4Comments- Jamese1045Oct 21, 2025Copper Contributor45Views0likes2Comments
