"First line" indents every line and photos
Document is set to indent 1st line. This works well with block text but it also indents every title, caption and photo. Why does it recognize every title and even photos as a new paragraph to indent and how do I limit indenting just to paragraph text?JonathanWNov 11, 2025Occasional Reader8Views0likes1Comment"Heading" and "Body" fonts are sometimes incorrectly displaying as Times New Roman
This appears to have started with the latest update that also made table formatting go nuts. Sometimes when we open a document from SharePoint, any text that has been formatted with "Body" or "Headings" will display as TNR. The font box will show "Times New Roman (Body)". The style definition will show "Body". Under the Design tab, the font scheme shows the Heading and Body as both being "Aptos" though, which is correct. Limited testing shows that closing Word down completely fixes it. But it's causing a lot of consternation!AndrewB_33335Nov 11, 2025Brass Contributor22Views0likes2CommentsTable Borders in Word Disappearing
Over the past week or so, the table borders in our company's Word documents are disappearing. I am seeing a lot of posts in message boards around the internet where people are having the same issue. Is this a known bug with a recent update? Even when we go into the table style and modify the style add the borders, they disappear again once the document is closed and reopened.OfficeUser145678Nov 05, 2025Copper Contributor138Views1like2CommentsTurn off all autocorrect, spacing suggestions, etc. - Word for Mac
(Word for Mac) Is there a way to turn off all autocorrect, auto punctuation, double blue lines that suggest spacing, etc.? Basically, for Word to stop trying to help me and just let me drive? To pull the plug on auto correct and let me do what I want to do? I'm working on bass guitar tablature, which is kind of like drawing with letters and numbers, so I'm putting letters, numbers, and punctuation in places that don't correspond to normal grammar rules. Every single time auto correct tries to help me (which is about 6 times per minute), I have to fix what it did (I often have to do this multiple times per instance because auto correct will re-correct what I fixed), which is aggravating and time consuming, and all the double lines telling me to fix spacing are driving me nuts. I want to be in charge. I don't want auto correct to be in charge.KazuT10Nov 01, 2025Copper Contributor42Views1like1CommentCan't remove spaces between rows
Hello, I need to correct a word document and I received it with multiple spaces between rows that I can't seem to correct no matter what I try. Here is an example: As we can see, there is a blank row between the two lines but I cannot move the pointer there, nor I can backspace and make the blank row disappear. This seems to be tied to some pre-formatted settings; could someone pinpoint where should I go in settings in order to somehow be able and gracefully align these two rows? Thank you very much, Desktop Mac OS Word: Version 16.86 Version 15.6 Sequoia This behavior is persistent in Windows. Thanks again,Incognito36Oct 29, 2025Copper Contributor64Views0likes2CommentsTable of contents bug - num list headings are on multiple lines in the TOC
I'm working on some documents with multiple headings and table of contents. As part of the formatting, most of the headings are numbered using the num list format, like so: However, a strange issue has been occurring where, when I set up the table of contents, some of these headings and subheadings spill over multiple lines in the table. I can't figure out why this might be—every heading has the same formatting as each other, and every subheading has the same formatting as each other, yet only some of the headings and subheadings experience this bug in the table of contents. Most are normal. See below for a simulated example of what I mean: As can be seen, the actual titles are on separate lines from the page numbers, and some of the numbers are on separate lines from their titles. The ideal format should be, say: "1.2 [Title] [leading dots] [page number]", all on the one line. I've had a look at the headings to see if there are any formatting or paragraph inconsistencies, but I can't find any. I'd like to get some help with figuring out what might be causing this issue. I apologise, I know this is a bit vague, but I really don't know how to explain it any other way. I'll appreciate any help you can offer, thank you.Rosalind_GOct 26, 2025Copper Contributor51Views0likes3CommentsWord document crashes
Every time I leave my word document open in my iPads and search for something and then get back to the document, it crashes, that is, it suddenly disappears. I did all the available suggestions to solve the problem including “clear all the documents,” “delete sing-in credentials,” and “reset cloud settings” in Setting of my iPads (11 and 12). I even deleted the app and downloaded it again. None of them worked. Of course, I don’t have the same problem with my old iPad, 10. That’s killing me.Martin64Oct 22, 2025Copper Contributor76Views0likes1CommentLinks from Word to pdf doc online not working
I I am suddenly unable to jump from a hyperlink in Word to a PDF on the internet. I insert a hyperlink in Word that points to the online PDF. When I click on the link I get a message stating "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page." I have checked my Default App settings, and Adobe acrobat reader is associated with file type "pdf," as well as "URL: adobe acrobat." I also went into "Manage Extensions" in Chrome and made sure to select "Allow access to file URLs" within the Adobe Acrobat extension to Chrome. I can paste the url into a search bar in my browser and that works fine, but not as a hyperlink from within the Word document. This has happened suddenly on my desktop and my laptop. Any idea what the problem is?SolvedJim6373Oct 21, 2025Copper Contributor67Views0likes3CommentsUnicode characters conflation?
In the find and replace tool in Word (ctrl+H) I would like to replace the left single quotation mark [ ' = U+2018] with the upper left double quotation mark [ “ = U+201C] (to insert the Unicode values I use the hex value and Alt+X.). Yet, Word consistently replaces the latter with the lower left single quotation mark [ „ = U+201E]. Is this me doing something wrong, or is it a bug?Mark65Oct 21, 2025Copper Contributor37Views0likes2Comments
