Cannot Unprotect a workbook or sheets

Copper Contributor

I protected my xlsx file with multiple sheets and saved it to my One Drive.  I then shared this file with a couple others in my office and now I can no longer unprotect or view hidden sheets.  The unprotect and unhide ribbon and menu buttons are greyed out.  I unshared the file thinking it was that but it did not change.  What do I do?

Could someone have applied a Custom UI part to your file?  I've used this strategy to disable the Defined Names part of the Formulas ribbon tab to remove visibility of named ranges in distributed workbooks.

Try Googling "Custom UI Editor" and you will find free downloads of applications that make it easy to see and edit Custom UI parts in your workbooks.

You can also edit the UI parts by renaming a copy of your workbook as a .zip file and opening that to see if it contains any Custom UI.

Hi Daniel

Did you try downloading the file to your Desktop, making the changes and uploading back to OneDrive?

Thanks. Yes I tried that. Didn’t do the trick.
