Welcome to the new year! Today we’re releasing build 81.0.381.0 to the Dev Channel, which as you can see is the first new build from major version 81. We haven’t been completely asleep during the holidays though; we’ve been slowing turning favorites sync back on for most Canary and Dev users, with the last of them coming back online a couple of days ago. As sync is re-enabled, some machines may experience duplication-like behavior as the machines get back into a clean state, but that behavior shouldn’t persist, and any changes you make to your favorites should now sync properly (but please let us know if that’s not the case!)
We also have a couple of informational updates. First, we’ve proposed our security baseline configuration for when organizations install the Stable channel of Edge: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/18/security-baseline-draft-edge-79/. There’s an accompanying discussion over on the Security Baselines forum. Second, we started a discussion around the value proposition of Reading List and how users would like to see us evolve it moving forward: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/reading-list-discussion/m-p/1070553. As for the most noteworthy product changes:
Added features:
Improved reliability:
Changed behavior:
Known issues:
We’re looking forward to the release of the Stable channel soon, and thank you for all the help you’ve given us in getting to that point!

All of the installs with a bunch of folks that I have using it around here are receiving the fun white screen that sits for a good 10-seconds or more then eventually your see
This is on the Dev Channel, Beta and Canary are the only ones that work for us. I can't even go to "About Microsoft Edge".

I can't sign in on either of my computers with this latest update. The account I am using to sign in is an Office 365/Azure AD Account that is workplace joined. When I click the Sign in button, absolutely nothing happens.

this excess of advertisements contributes to me going back to Google
Yeah, I expected that more from Google than Microsoft but it's actually the other way around..

@viniciusbezerra
Ads where, Vini?

one of the Billions of examples
Now compare it to Google results
Boom, no more messing around with ads and getting misled, straight to the correct result, at top.

@Hexxus @josh_bodner
Sure is going to be interesting to know why some are experiencing this behavior. Personally, I am anxious to hear the explanation, even though not seeing it myself. Still, keen & curious to learn what was behind it.
Cheers,
Drew

so after installing this latest Dev update, you were signed out and now the sign in doesn't work anymore?
or is it the first time you're trying to sing in and it's failing?

Couple of suggestions:
1. Is it possible to add support for navigation bar shortcuts (Ctrl+L, Alt+D) to full screen mode? See original Edge as an UI example
2. TIL that reading view still exist but it requires extra effort since it is visible only in "Read aloud" mode. It would be nice to have it as icon in address bar (and or shortcut).
PS: Thanks for great product

- What happened to the built-in "deduplication" that was hinted at earlier?
@dvdwnd we haven't rolled it out more broadly yet. I will say that it works though; I had about 10x more favorites due to duplication, and it cleaned them up beautifully!
As for any other issues with things not syncing properly like Collections or certain folders, it would really help us out if you opened up a support ticket at https://microsoftedgesupport.microsoft.com/hc/en-us/requests/new, that way our support agents could get the info from you that we need in order to get to the bottom of the issue.

can you please add this shortcut to the ellipsis menu?
@HotCakeX aha, good catch! Do you want to do the honors of filing the feedback we'll use to fix this bug?
Jan 10 2020 07:24 PM
so it begs the question, what this exactly means
"Added the ability to paste multiple items into a Collection at the same time."
@HotCakeX this is my bad; it's part of a multi-part change in order to start supporting more multi-selection functionalities in Collections, but some of the other parts aren't ready yet. I didn't know that when I first made this list, so we'll just have to ignore this for right now (and having something to look forward to!)

I have the Dev version installed on two PC's, yet the Favorites Sync is still disabled and grayed out on both of them.
@Moseph_V as some of the other users have mentioned, we turned favorites sync back on with a controlled feature rollout, and it looks like you're one of the unlucky subset of folks who didn't get that particular rollout just yet. We're also working on turning it back on in code, which will work regardless of the feature rollout, but that change took longer and didn't make it in time for this week's Dev build. So, you should just have to wait for another Dev update in order to get your sync working again.

@Ssh78 it does, but that functionality may still be hidden behind a flag for you. If you enable the edge://flags/#edge-reading-view flag, you should see an icon on the right side of the address bar to enter Reading View (now called Immersive Reader) when visiting eligible pages, just like in Edge Legacy:

@Ssh78
Hi,
With the cursor sitting anywhere, Ctrl+L & Alt+D, in Edge C, both DO bring the focus to the Nav Bar; similar to Edge HTML. Edge C will highlight any existing URL & start typing anew (there).
Any site offering Reading View will have its icon showing at the right end of the URL
NB: Not all sites offer it. When not offered, icon will not show.
Cheers,
Drew
