Word freezes or crashes when pressing the G key in the file search
When pressing the letter G in the file search on Word, it either just freezes and doesn't respond or crashes immediately. Regardless of whether Word is in Safe Mode or not. It also pops up a "Word couldn't start last time" pop-up when I try to open the app again and asks if I want to open it in Safe Mode. Which, as I said, still has the same problem. As far as I can tell, that's the only issue with Word. Everything else works great so far. This does not happen with other apps like PowerPoint or Excel. I have only recently reinstalled all the apps and it does not seem to have helped. This is ridiculous. I have spent over 2 hours trying to turn off Copilot in MS Word O365 version. I am running MS Word in I I Windows 11 (updated) and running what I believe is the most current version. I have been able to go into Excel => Options and uncheck the "Enable Copilot". I do not see such a box in Powerpoint (thank God - I don't see it in the app at all) and have been able to turn it off on my Mac Office Apps. I have an O365 account. When I open Word in Windows and then select the Options I get what is displayed below. Do not see the enable coPilot option, but CoPilot is on. This is ridiculous. I have cleaned the registry and I have seen hacks on how to turn off coPilot by butchering the registry, which I refuse to do. I even removed the coPolite App. MS, I DO NOT WANT TO USE AI TO WRITE. How do I get rid of this? I am EXTREMELY frustrated with this. BryanbschmiedelertempconnetApr 28, 2026Copper Contributor2.4KViews1like5CommentsDifferences in Word for Mac and Word for Windows
I've been using Word on Windows for many years but recently have purchased a Mac mini and am trying to get used to Word for Mac. So far I've noticed one super annoying feature of Word for Mac: the spaces, tabs, paragraph symbols, etc., show up in blue instead of in the same color as the text. This is going to create a real problem when I start working on documents where I'm tracking changes, since the paragraph symbols might look like they've been inserted during an edit if the edits are being shown in blue--something I have no control over since other people will have already worked on the document before I get it. As far as I can tell, there's no way to change this. So I staretd wondering : How many other things are this vastly different on Word for Mac? Are there still keyboard equivalents of all the usual functions (like toggling Tracking on and off, adding a comment, saving, etc.)? Are there any functions completely missing from Word for Mac that are on Word for Windows? I still have time to return the Mac I got and try to find a Windows pc that meets other requirements I have. Thanks for any info you might have. I've done a lot of searching on the internet for this and have found very little detailed info.miffyApr 28, 2026Copper Contributor118Views0likes4CommentsIs there a way to reset a password locked word document that I developed?
Is there a way to reset a password locked word document that I developed? The document will not except the password that I set. Its a very important document. There must be some sort of over ride available?medic_lahaieApr 27, 2026Copper Contributor20Views0likes1CommentSpace between Sentences changed in recent update
Before my PC was rebooted for an OS update on the fifteenth, the space checking behaved as expected. Since then, it is incorrectly adding grammar squiggles and pauses when checking where it should not. In the proofing settings for this, I have (why is this panel not in dark mode? xD): Which used to ignore quoted sentences such as: However, you can now see a squiggle where one does not belong. This happens with all "special ending" punctuation (question & exclamation) provided the following character is a capital letter. (A full-stop in quotes should be followed by two spaces as a comma is used when ending followed by a "(s)he said.) In other cases, if followed by a lowercase, it remains correct: I changed nothing about my settings between the update and also tried with the latest one this morning (the 25th), but the problem persists. This was also working correctly with mixed sentences before the update: Here, we see a new sentence after the first question, indicating a bit of extra movement or, in some cases, a thought. Again, this worked correctly before the update and has since started doing this. I hate to disable this option because I sometimes forget to space correctly (or I am deleting stuff and remove too much, where the squiggle helps me fix it, as it should). And no, I am not interested in a "how many spaces" fight. The live support told me to post here to find an answer or get this fixed… I hope it helps in finding the change and reverting it back to how it should be. Thank you.PadméApr 24, 2026Copper Contributor12Views0likes0CommentsMy Word table is messed up.
My Word table is messed up. You can see the problem in the photo. The spacing is off at the top and bottom. I can't move the column lines either, because that messes everything up. Older versions of the document look the same way. I need help urgently.bopesonesApr 24, 2026Copper Contributor54Views0likes2CommentsLarge text which repeats more than 500 times in a document - how can I delete it?
Hi all, I have a Word 365 document - 1170 pages, where I have one and the same text repeating more than 500 times. This repetitive text contains several paragraphs and a table and I want to remove it from all its instances. Is there any way to remove it quickly? I am not a word advanced user and cannot use macros.SDj1Apr 23, 2026Brass Contributor68Views0likes4CommentsSimply cannot delete a section break. It is impossible. Cannot be done. Please prove me wrong.
So I was introduced to section breaks as a means of getting page numbering up-to-spec for book I've written (roman. numerals in the front material, arabic numerals in the book itself). I'm using the latest version of Word (16.8?) on Mac. To my horror, I've found that it is impossible to delete section breaks once they're in my document. I have spend an entire day in Google on this subject, and every single suggestion fails. So I have enabled showing markup, so I can see page breaks, section breaks, paragraphs I cannot select a section break. Word will not allow that. So I can't select and delete it. I cannot put the cursor after a section break and then hit the delete button as many suggest. Word will not allow the cursor to be placed after a section break. Putting the cursor before the section break, as other articles recommend, is just wrong. All you're doing there is deleting text before the section break. Why is this so hard? I've lost a whole day on something that should be simple. In the screenshot from my document below, The section break simply cannot be touched.markaaronky1390Apr 22, 2026Copper Contributor241KViews6likes50CommentsOnce Publisher disappears...help please.
Hi all, So I see that by late 2026 Microsoft is getting rid of Publisher which means ( as I understand it ) any/all of my PUB files on the pc will no longer be able to be opened/used. I know I can convert my PUB docs to PDF but how do I do the following. I have a number of PUB docs that have multiple photos on each page. These pages are used for a notebook that I change annually. Some photos stay and some are replaced. Dead easy to do using PUB but what happens when PUB goes. I can open the changed file ( from PUB to PDF ) but it doesnt allow me to change individual images..its all or nothing. I can work out how to open a PDF in WORD but the same thing is happening..its either every picture or nothing ?? SO..my Q is..once PUB goes what can I use to keep editing these pages. HOpe someone can help me. Thank youmucky1957Apr 20, 2026Copper Contributor1.4KViews0likes14Comments
