Word count dropped but the number of words hasn't changed
Dear All Please help with this problem. I’ve been working on a document for months. It's about 95,700 words. Two days ago, the count dropped by about 700 words. The same thing had happened in two other versions of the same document that I hadn't opened for a few days. I follow the counts closely. There's no rational explanation. It was the same when I opened the documents, via my external hard drive on a different PC. I did a virus scan, that was OK. I hadn’t deleted any words. If I opened the documents on Microsoft Online, it showed the correct word count. Other, unrelated Word documents were not affected. Microsoft support tried to resolve this but couldn’t. Then I fixed it myself by uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft 365/ Office. But now two days later it’s come back. I work on this project every day. It’s vital that I see the correct word count. Having to use Microsoft Online would be a pain. Please, does anyone know how to correct this, permanently? Help! I'm trying to renumber my 2010 .docx file, starting at physical page 11 as page 1. In certain sections of the document, the page number shows up, but in earlier sections, it completely disappears. I've been online, done everything that all the "help" posts say to do, all to no effect. Is there a free app out there somewhere that allows you to renumber your entire document, starting at a specific physical page number, and also allows you to determine where and how the page number is displayed? Or, if anyone knows a trick I don't know, I'd be all for that, too! Thanks for any help you can provide! God bless!!! Is there any way to dynamically turn pages in a document on or off during a mail merge? Building a welcome packet for an event, and some people need to see Page A. Others need to see Page B instead. If it were just simple text differences between the two, I could merge in the content itself, but the pages are wildly different, with images and other elements. Before my PC was rebooted for an OS update on the fifteenth, the space checking behaved as expected. Since then, it is incorrectly adding grammar squiggles and pauses when checking where it should not. In the proofing settings for this, I have (why is this panel not in dark mode? xD): Which used to ignore quoted sentences such as: However, you can now see a squiggle where one does not belong. This happens with all "special ending" punctuation (question & exclamation) provided the following character is a capital letter. (A full-stop in quotes should be followed by two spaces as a comma is used when ending followed by a "(s)he said.) In other cases, if followed by a lowercase, it remains correct: I changed nothing about my settings between the update and also tried with the latest one this morning (the 25th), but the problem persists. This was also working correctly with mixed sentences before the update: Here, we see a new sentence after the first question, indicating a bit of extra movement or, in some cases, a thought. Again, this worked correctly before the update and has since started doing this. I hate to disable this option because I sometimes forget to space correctly (or I am deleting stuff and remove too much, where the squiggle helps me fix it, as it should). And no, I am not interested in a "how many spaces" fight. The live support told me to post here to find an answer or get this fixed… I hope it helps in finding the change and reverting it back to how it should be. Hi all, I have a macbook air 2020 version with an Intel chip. I'm using OS Sequioa 15.7.4 Microsoft Word version 16.107.1 Since this week I'm having issues with saving Microsoft Word files on my Mac. When I'm trying to save a file I'm getting the following message (translated from Dutch): "saving has failed because of insufficient memory or space on the hard disk" My hard disk is using 133 GB out of 500 GB. So that can't be the issue. I've tried already the following things: Reinstall MacOS (via cmnd R) Reinstall Word Log off out of word, restart, and log on into word. Reset Office 365 on mac via Office-Reset.com Saving the file in another folder / external disk Transfering all my files to a new Mac with OS Tahoe 26.3.1 and start working from there On both Macs I'm investigating deeper what goes wrong and this is what I've noticed so far I can open a new word file, typ in it and save that file. But the moment that I start pasting things from certain (a lot but not all) other files the problems start. I can't undo previous actions anymore I can't save the file I'm working on anymore (USB / Mac / onedrive) These issues occur on both MacOS. These issues occur often when I'm pasting pictures or formulas from those certain word-files. Does anyone has any idea how to fix this? Many thanks in advance. I've restricted editing to a selection of styles in my Word template. This, however, also restricts some key essential functions, for example, you can't add in a new Table of Contents or add in page or section breaks. Guys, I have to use a new keyboard (Greek one) for some academic research and some accents conflicts with the AltGr + shortcuts. There's a way that I can just remove them all? Recently upgraded some templates from Word 2010 and 2003 (yeah, I know) to 2016 and 365 with, frankly, disappointing results. :o/ Since 2003 we've been using a pair of macros to merge some smaller files, doing some automated and manual clean up then running another macro that saves them back to the individual files. BUT, in 2016 and 365 when the macro creates a new document with the very basic command like this: Set NewDoc = Documents.add TemplateName.dotm A new document is created with the template attached, but as soon as it's saved, THE TEMPLATE IS NO LONGER ATTACHED! The only way to get the template to stay attached is to give the full path of the template, which then opens (inexplicably) a second version of the template. There are time when Word gives messages during macros that the template is read-only when a new document is created based on the template. Isn't that kind of the whole purpose of a template? To create similar documents based on, gosh, well, a TEMPLATE?! Is this all new "security" (and I use the term lightly) measures? Does anyone know if there is a way to make the "modern" versions of Word work like to the "good 'ol days" where templates just worked and Word didn't open multiple versions of the same template file and give read-only messages? With the help of a network admin we've done everything we could think of to try and convince Word that various network drives are "safe." Sorry for the snark, but it is immensely frustrating that code we've relied on 20 years all of a sudden doesn't work. Thanks for any ideas or insights. I would love to remove this gradient from the Blue theme and replace it with a solid color, as in the Black theme. I doubt it's possible, but I guess it never hurts to ask. This is just annoying - having to squint every time I need the menu.
