New Outlook for Windows
Will the "New Outlook for Windows (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/outlook/outlook-for-windows)" replace Desktop Outlook that is part of the Office Suite and several Office Personal and Business Subscriptions, or is it only replacing the Mail and Calendar App along with the People App that come pre-installed on Windows 10. My understanding is "New Outlook for Windows" is scheduled to become the default, and possibly only, Windows Mail App by Microsoft starting at the end December of 2024?Solved960Views0likes1CommentSecurity Defaults in Azure AD
Back in the early days of Office 365 it was recommended that Global Administrators not use MFA in case they needed to login and didn't have access to their second factor. Recently I was prompted to enable security defaults of MFA for every user: https://Aka.ms/securitydefaultswhich re-directs to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/concept-fundamentals-security-defaults What's changed such that it's now recommended that Global Admins use MFA? What is the meaning of the file size in parentheses when a file is uploading to OneDrive. For example: FILE.TXT __________________________________________________ UPLOADING 220.9 MB of 299.4 MB (158.5 MB) (italics and red highlighting added by me for emphasis). 299.4 MB is the actual file size on local disk. What does the 158.5MB number represent? Thank you,910Views0likes0CommentsWhat is the file size figure in parentheses when OD4B client is uploading or downloading
Recently I had a file that was truncated after OD4B Synced the file. I noticed on this file that the client said it was Uploading 75.1MB of 262.0 MB (175.0 MB). After I restored several older versions from version history, I noticed client said it was either uploading or downloading xx.x MB of xxx.x MB (xxx.x MB), where the number in parentheses is the same as of number before the parentheses. For example: Uploading 65.5 MB of 261.5 MB (261.5MB) This is the only file I've noticed that has a file size number in parentheses, and the corruption occurred after the file size in the parentheses was smaller than the number outside the parentheses. What is the meaning or significance of having a file that shows a file size in parentheses, and should I expect that this is an early warning sign of corruption or truncation ahead? 05/20/2020 - 16:58 - I added a second screen shot showing the reduced file size in the parentheses. Again, I'm trying to find out what is represented by the file MB number in the parentheses. Thank you.2KViews0likes0CommentsBackup for OneNote App for Windows 10
We really need a backup feature in OneNote App for Windows 10, similar to the one found in OneNote for Office 2016, including number of backups to keep, where to keep them, and how frequently to check for changes. While all of our notebooks are in the Microsoft Cloud, if, for any reason, infrequently used pages, sections, section groups, or notebooks are accidentally deleted over time, and they are no longer in the recycle bin, there is no way to recover them. "Point-In-Time backups" that are periodically archived and never deleted by a user make it possible to recover such lost objects. Cloud storage of the notebooks don't make this possible. There is a limited capability to "Export a Notebook" from OneDrive Consumer hosted notebooks, but this isn't available to people who store their notebooks on SharePoint Online. Even if it became available, it is deficient in that users must manually start the export, one notebook at a time, whether or not notebooks have been changed. Backup function of OneNote 2016, 2013, 2010, and 2007 all allowed specifying parameters as to how frequently backup would run, where backup files would be stored, and how many backups would be cycled in a rotation. In summary, please add a backup feature to OneNote App for Windows 10, similar to the one found in OneNote for Office 2016, including number of backups to keep, where to keep them, and how frequently to check for changes.Outlook 2016 Hangs on Loading Profile - Never returns even after a 1 hour wait.
Outlook 2016 Hangs on Loading Profile - Never returns even after a 1 hour wait. This is apparently a known issue and discussed by several users at https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f03ed8d3-b27d-4abf-bde7-27f587bc466d/outlook-2016-is-now-hanging-at-the-loading-profile-quot-startup-page?forum=outlook&prof=required I've been running Outlook 2016 - Office 365 - 64 Bit - Click-to-Run since March, and never experienced this issue. I got the problem yesterday after updating Outlook 2016 to latest version. I am now running Office 365 Version 1905 (Build 11629.20246 Click-to-Run ) - All apps are v16.0.11629.20238 64 bit In my case, I tried to rename the .ost file and got a message that Excel was using my file, even though Excel wasn't running. I went to task manager, found Excel running in the background, killed it, and Outlook came immediately to life. My questions are for Microsoft. If you're aware of this problem, what is the status? and is there a permanent work-around, or do we have to keep killing whichever Office App happens to be locking our .ost file. If you're not aware of it, please try to replicate it and feel free to contact me for any details you require. I recently deployed a new Windows 10 machine. I synced it to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint. The System Folder Icon for the SharePoint library shows 700mb when the Library has almost 50gb. It shows 640 files and 120 folders, when it actually has 49,000 files and 3,000 folders. Most of the sub-folder icons beneath the System Folder in the path tree also show seriously wrong (low) counts. Only when I get down to the lowest level folders in each branch of the tree does that folder icon show the correct counts. Has anyone seen anything similar to this, and does anyone have any suggestions how to get it to show the correct numbers? I'm thinking about "Stop Syncing" this library with the client, deleting the local PC based copy, and re-syncing it, but I'm afraid that will cause the System Folder Icon for the SharePoint library to go negative and have unintended consequences. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.1.2KViews0likes3CommentsOneDrive for Business Client Stuck Processing nn changes for 2 full days. Never stops
Starting on 01/29/2019, one of my client PCs is stuck "Processing Changes". It never stops. I'm running Version 2019 (Build 19.002.0107.0008). I found a "Known Issue" at https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Fixes-or-workarounds-for-recent-issues-in-OneDrive-36110213-F3F6-490D-8CB7-3833539DEF0B A file called849C9593-D756-4E56-8D6E-42412F2A707B is blocking sync[WORKAROUND] This known issue seems to stop copying one OneDrive folder to another, which is different than my issue. Nevertheless, I tried deleting the hidden system file called.849C9593-D756-4E56-8D6E-42412F2A707B, by following the instructions in the "Known Issue" Workaround. I was able to delete, but it gets re-created within 1 second after OneDrive client restarts. My client is stuck "Processing 24 changes." These changes were originally downloaded from the cloud, after being uploaded from another system. The original system did not develop this issue. I can't remember all of the 24 files that were downloaded before the issue surfaced, but I un-synced every folder that I think was involved, with no change in the issue symptom. Is there any log file that might help me narrow down the cause of this issue. Files are properly being synced up and down even during this issue, it's just that the processing change twirling icon in the system never stops, so I can't tell if my system is idle or busy with OneDrive. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can troubleshoot this issue. The default solution from the support community is to totally unsync everything, and then reset the client, but this will cause me to have to re-checkmark only the files / folders that I wan't synced to this PC, and have to re-download gigabytes of data in the process. I really don't want to have to do that unless as a last resort.19KViews0likes11CommentsThe Future of OneNote
I read several articles last week that quoted a Microsoft spokesman as saying that Microsoft is no longer developing new features for UWP apps since they have halted work on Windows 10 Mobile. The spokesman went on to say "We are currently prioritizing development for the iOS and Android versions of our apps; and on Windows, we are prioritizing Win32 and web versions of our apps" Does this imply that the OneNote is being abandoned by Microsoft? I am inferring this because OneNote Win32 is NOT being developed for Office 2019 and, according to last week's quoted Microsoft announcements, Office UWP Apps are being abandoned by Microsoft. Please let us know the future of OneNote, in detail. Thank you.
