Microphone issue on multiple Surface Pro Copilot+ devices
Afternoon, hoping someone can help with the below issue as we are not getting anywhere with it, the live chat hasnt been able to assist either. We have purchased two Surface Pro Copilot+ devices and both of them have the same issue with their microphones where it pick up speech very quietly but it will pick up other noises much louder, for example when testing on the sound recorded app when talking loudly and also tapping on the surface pro, my talking plays back extremely quiet but the tapping is loud and clear. We have installed all updates, ensured the microphone levels are high, disabled any microphone enhancements or effects but no luck. Has anyone else had this issue? I am the IT manager at work and we got two new surface pro 11th edition with snapdragon with windows 11 pro and cellular for our techs to use in the field. We got them slim pen 2's along with the devices for ease of use. When I set up the surface pros they worked great and speedy out of the box. After set up I decided to test the slim pen 2 as they came with a bundle from amazon with the keyboard. When I go to grab the pen from the charging dock/keyboard case the surface does a quick flash of a black screen and then my search bar disappears and the surface is notably more laggy and inputs (whether on touch screen or keyboard) are delayed. I have flashed reset these two devices with windows 11 usb boot up drives twice and the issue always starts when I take the pen out to use it for the first time. I have tried all the suggestions I have seen online and in copilot, but nothing seems to work. The only way I have gotten the device back to working order was to reset it, but once that pen is taken from the charger the whole issue starts over again. The issue is not fixed by logging into another user, disconnecting the pen, changing pen setting, restarting windows explorer, stopping searchhost in task manager. I have also tried changing all the setting on the pen and checking for driver updates but I have had no results. It seems to me to be a software issue between these two specific devices. Can someone please tell me if they have had this problem and what worked for them to fix it?briancantu98Jul 02, 2026Copper Contributor32Views0likes1CommentCritical Pen Hover & Stray Ink Issue on New Surface Pro 11 for Business with Slim Pen 2
Hello Microsoft Community and Support Staff, I am writing to report a critical and seemingly widespread issue with the pen input on the brand-new Surface Pro for Business, 13-inch (Intel model, often called Surface Pro 11 "Luna Lake"). The Core Problem: Pen Draws Without Touching the Screen When using the Surface Slim Pen 2, the device begins to register ink input while the pen is still hovering a few millimeters above the screen. It does not require any physical contact or pressure. This "hover-inking" makes handwriting completely unusable. As I write, any time I lift the pen to start a new letter or stroke, the pen continues to draw a line as it moves through the air to its next position. This results in messy, connected handwriting with unwanted "tails," completely defeating the purpose of having a premium inking device. This is Not a Defective Unit - It's a Replicable Problem Initially, I thought I had a faulty device. However, to isolate the issue, I have performed extensive testing: I have personally tested this on [3] brand-new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) devices. I have used [4] different Slim Pen 2s. The exact same hover-inking problem occurred on every single combination of device and pen. Furthermore, I have already performed all standard troubleshooting steps, including: Clean OS installation via Surface Recovery Image. Ensuring all Windows, driver, and firmware updates are installed. Running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (which reported no errors). However, the same issue continues to occur even after trying these methods. Additionally, it has been reported that the issue also appears on the latest Surface Pro 12-inch model with the Snapdragon X Plus, just like on the Surface Pro 11 that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite instead of Intel’s Lunar Lake. (I do not own any Snapdragon devices myself. If you own a Snapdragon device and are experiencing the same issue, please share your feedback.)" Video Evidence: I have recorded a clear video demonstrating the problem. It shows the pen drawing while hovering on the Surface Pro 11 and makes unwanted tails on handwriting letters. What are the official steps to escalate this issue directly to the Surface engineering team for a fix? This is a major flaw in a flagship product that severely impacts its core functionality. I have submitted a formal bug report through the Feedback Hub, which can be found here: Feedback Hub Link: https://aka.ms/AAxzh27 I urge the Microsoft team to investigate this with high priority and release a firmware or software update to recalibrate the pen's Initial Activation Force (IAF). Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.PremiereMay 15, 2026Tin Contributor890Views9likes7CommentsSurface Pro 11 Battery Issues?
Its been less than one year on my surface pro 11 and i was feeling like the battery was not lasting as long as stated and also lagging at some points. When I did the battery health check it showed that it had dropped around 13% from design capacity. Is this normal and should I get it repaired/replaced under warranty? Its just bit of a hassle as I am outside of the US.... Microsoft surface pro users outside of the US doesnt seem to have the proper support also, no contact and no email response from raising tickets....myshin89May 05, 2026Copper Contributor250Views0likes1CommentNetwork connection
I’ve three Surface Pros: two 7+ running Windows 11 Pro and an older Pro 5 running Windows 10 Pro. All fully up to date. All exhibit the same problem, even when placed next to each other and barely 2 metres from a wireless repeater that’s part of a TP-Link Deco mesh network. The problem is that randomly any one or two of them will claim there’s no internet connection while the other one or two are rock solid with a 90 plus score on my Orb app. Then a random time later the disconnected device will find the network. There’s no obvious pattern – sometimes the problem exhibits itself on a full cold start, sometimes on waking from sleep when the typecover had simply been closed. Other devices such as a phone or Android tablet never show this so I conclude it’s something to do with the Surface tablets – but what is it and how can I fix it? Grateful for any suggestions.AllmatMay 04, 2026Copper Contributor53Views0likes0CommentsUnable to pause Smart Charging
The option to pause Smart Charging and charge battery to 100% has disappeared from Surface App. My battery is hovering at 76-77% and I am unable to charge it to 100% to prepare for working away from power supply. Was able to do this for over a year and the option is simply gone - tried repairing, resetting and reinstalling Surface App with no effect. This is on Surface 9 Pro for Business i7 (2038) / Win11 Ent. Please advise.avksoftApr 08, 2026Copper Contributor1.1KViews2likes4CommentsA pen for Surface Pro 7 and 4.

A little over two years ago I bought my first Surface Pro, and after about a year of usage, I started noticing this screen flicker problem. It's widely reported with thousands of threads and reports of screens flickering on surface pro products. Most reports mention heat as a factor and cooling it down can sometimes reduce the flicker. Here is a link to a 2000 post long thread just about this issue. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfdrivers/surface-pro-4-screen-flickering-shacking/570165cb-50a0-4d71-bcb1-310ddd869d1d?rtAction=1517820905738 I just got my 2nd replacement device last month. And noticed flicker again only 1 month after I got the new one. This time there is no idle flicker.... for now at least. And it only flickers when the device get hot. When gaming or doing some other heavy task. Luckily I've always been under warranty when this problem occurred so I've been getting my device replaced a few times now, but it's getting a bit tedious. My first one (my original purchase) got flickering after about a year. Idle flicker when nothing was moving. My second (replacement device) got flickering about 8 months after I got it. Idle flicker and constant flicker under heavy load. My third (the latest one) got flickering while gaming after just 1 month. So far only under heavy load. I'm starting to think that ALL Surface devices are defective. Some people just don't get the problem because their device never really get hot enough to cause any damage. It seems that Surface Pro's can't handle heat very well at all, and is not suitable for any heavy tasks, gaming, or anything else that might cause it to get hot. Since some people are reporting it even on new models like Surface Pro 2017 it seems they have not fixed the issue. And probably won't be fixed any time soon, as this is probably an engineering or design flaw, that causes some chip to be unstable and damaged due to heat. It seems the only fix is to downclock your surface device to keep it from not getting hot enough to cause the damage in the first place, and don't use it for any heavy tasks. Some people that don't use the device for any heavy tasks still report this issue so it's not the CPU/GPU getting too hot, but rather this little part here. Even on an idle machine with low CPU temps touching the lower part of the screen with the back of your hand this area is the hottest part. And is probably housing the chips that get unstable due to heat. Replacing the LCD will fix the flicker issue, so It seems like chips related to the LCD will get damaged over time. Weather it be from the heat produced by the device itself or external heat, as there is no active or passive cooling for any of the chips related to the LCD screen. If there's any engineers on this forum, place fix this issue in future devices. It's a great device and the CPU/GPU will get cool enough even under heavy load, but the LCD must chips have been overlooked.Ricard JensenFeb 19, 2026Brass Contributor39KViews1like11CommentsSurface Pro 10 with Snapdragon Processor and Printer Installation Problems
Greetings all. I took the plunge and picked up a Surface Pro 10 with the Snapdragon Elite processor to use for my work computer. So far, things have gone pretty smoothly and I have all of my regular applications installed and functioning. There is, however, one area that the Surface Pro with ARM architecture appears to be totally unusable: Windows Printer Drivers. I have installed Adobe Acrobat, the current cloud version on the Surface Pro and Acrobat seem to run okay, but no matter what I've tried, the Adobe PDF printer will not install. There are several ways to install the Adobe PDF printer manually and even an older patch to get it to install, but none of them work. I also tried to install printer drivers for several Brother printers and a Canon printer but they all fail to install. Sometimes they generate an install error and other times they simply fail to complete the installation and hang. Here I am referring to the official Windows drivers supplied by the printer manufacturer that include any supporting utilities such as Brother's Control Center for scanning documents. None of them will successfully install. I spent the afternoon working with Brother to try various things to install the printers, but nothing worked. They finally recommended that I contact Microsoft, so I did that too and they couldn't get anything to work either. When I received a follow up email from Microsoft, the technician and marked the case as solved and closed it, even though nothing worked. Now, if I install the printers from Windows 11, letting Windows discover the Brother printers, Windows will install a driver that I can print with and even recognizes the scanning capabilities but the scanning software that Microsoft provides for free won't scan to a .PDF file. So, while I can get the printers to work, I cannot access the "normal" printer drivers and utilize the manufacturer-supplied utilities with the printers. This limits their usefulness considerably. I haven't yet been able to get Windows 11 to recognize and add the Canon printer. I believe this to be a Microsoft problem with their ARM-compatibility app, whatever it is called, but I'm not sure how to go about getting feedback to Microsoft to get them to look into this. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?BanditoB1Feb 11, 2026Copper Contributor9.8KViews2likes5CommentsSurface Pro 7+ - multiple errors
Help. I installed some hardware updates, and now my Surface is stuck in blue screen loop. The loop starts with a black screen saying "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. You can restart." with "Stop code: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139)" at the bottom. (the device doesn't turn off on it's own at this point at all) When I turn it off and turn it on again, it goes into blue screen with 0xc0000001 error, only F8 and F10 keys are working. Then "File: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi" with error code 0xc0210000, again only F8 and F10 are working. Then BitLocker requiring a key. I input the key, and then get 9 options - and none are working. Whichever I press, the loop starts again. Sometimes I get a black screen "Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 11 Path: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi Partition: {(a long sequence)} Hard disk: {(a long sequence)} [ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /HYPERVISORLAUNCHTYPE=AUTO /FVEBOOT=2125824 /NOVGA (edition line here)]" I've tried making a USB with recovery image, but the Surface doesn't read it fully - my USB has a tiny light, and it flickers for a few seconds only when I choose options 4-6 (they're safe modes), but then it goes back into the reset loop. I've tried searching for solutions, but I can't find any that answers all 4 at the same time; and when I'm searching individually all of them say "wait till Windows boots, and then go to Start menu"... and I obviously can't do that since Windows doesn't boot. Any ideas?? I feel hopeless :(((((( (sorry for any spelling or translation mistakes, my Windows (and I lol) operates in Polish)SolvedPattJan 31, 2026Tin Contributor519Views0likes5Comments
