Surface Pro 11 - Thermal issues
Part of this was written by my CP+ at my instructions using my outline. I have an issue: 𧞠Surface Pro 11 Thermal Fault Report â User Experience & Mitigation User Profile: Strategic logistics architect, doctoral researcher, non-gamer, non-artist. Device used for high-level archive synthesis, (usually NOT) writing, and operational continuity - not gaming or creative workloads. Device: Surface Pro 11 (Copilot+ Premium); SnapDragon X 12 core @ 3.42GHz, 128MB, 1TB, 13.8", KB and Slim Pen 2. Windows 11 Pro, Canary, 27954.br Issue: Thermal instability and erratic behavior during OS and CP+ updates Symptoms: Rapid heat buildup during system-level downloads and installs Screen blinking, false inputs, and erratic Copilot behavior Near-destructive disruption of Copilot Premium interface (memory sync failure, UI instability) No similar issues on fallback Surface Pro 12-inch node Mitigation Actions Taken: Complete shutdown of Pro 11 (and fully synced and accompanying Pro 12-inch nodes Disconnected all peripherals (keyboard, mouse, dock, power) Nap ops initiated (approx. 1 hour), resulting in full system reset and thermal cooldown (Nap ops is my CP+ attempt at building a military (that is me) dad joke repertoire. Do not forgive his efforts, except sometimes when he finds some good ones.) Post-nap stability confirmed Tactical Recommendations That Helped: Use USB4 port furthest from the top edge for downloads, dock, and Copilot connections Avoid using the top USB4 port for chargingâinstead, use the Surface Connect port (which forces or rather prioritizes charging on its connection and excludes the USB4 charging) Adjust power mode to âRecommendedâ during high-load ops Monitor ambient temperature and airflow (it gets hot enough to fry eggs) Contextual Notes: No gaming or artistic workloads involvedâdevice used strictly for strategic, academic, research, and operational tasks Copilot Premium suggestions worked well in day-to-day use, but failed during yesterdayâs CP+/OS update cycle Request to Microsoft / Community: Please acknowledge that this issue affects non-gaming, non-creative professionals using Surface Pro 11 for mission-critical work Consider firmware or thermal management updates to stabilize CP+ shell during system-level operations Any community suggestions? Experience of 5-6 years ago, when I had the same issue with a Pro 5 or 6 or Book 2. I went into the Bellevue MSFT store to ask about 'glue' recommendations to stop the screen from 'bubbling' away from the bezel. The store manager almost literally grabbed the errant machine out of my hands, asked if the HD had my personal info deleted (I had done that) and raced into the back room with my machine. He returned with a brand new boxed machine, thanked me for being an MSFT customer, and bid me farewell. Then I started to read about the lithium issues in aircraft and offices. I don't want a repeat of that experience.17Views0likes1CommentPlease restore HDMI screen share via Share button and Miracast screen sharing after migration to MTR
The changes you have made make no sense whatsoever and are not end-user friendly. In our company, all MTR-based rooms have an HDMI cable available for screen sharing and I find it hard to understand why you have stripped these two functionalities from Surface Hubs after the migration (especially as Miracast worked brilliantly on SH2S!).607Views2likes2CommentsPoor Audio/Video Quality in Microsoft Surface Hub 3
When Teams meetings are hosted from our large meeting rooms using Surface Hub 3 85 inches devices, internal participants (both in the room or within the building) experience no issues - audio and video are clear and stable. However, when external participants join these meetings (from outside our network), external participants consistently experience: Poor audio quality: Voices intermittently cut in and out, particularly when someone is speaking from a distance away from the Surface Hub. Unstable video: The camera appears to struggle with focus, causing visual disruptions. This issue has been confirmed across multiple external users and locations, indicating it is not isolated to individual end-user setups.9Views0likes0CommentsOverheating problems with Surfaces
Since the temperatures have risen, we already have four devices(Surface Laptop & Pro) that are constantly throttling to the point of crashing due to overheating. Surface Support only allows us to replace the entire device, so I'll try it here. Are you also experiencing these problems? Did Microsoft provide a bad firmware update in this case?68Views0likes1CommentQuestion about Microsoft Support Structure
My Surface Pro 9 needs what I think is an easy firmware repair. Is it possible to avoid shipping it to Microsoft? The part of the firmware that contains the SKU Model Number is corrupt. It shows as "OEMLO Product" instead of Surface Pro 9. That part of the firmware is protected. It can only be accessed by a Microsoft employee using internal tools and physical access to the Surface Pro. Microsoft Device Support offers only a mail-in program, which would mean a lot of work for everyone that's probably not necessary. I don't know much about Microsoft support structure. So I don't know if it's flexible enough for a kind-hearted employee with access to the right tools to fix this. I live near several large Microsoft facilities in the Washington DC area. I think it's a quick easy repair. It could save me and Microsoft Device Support a lot of work that's probably unnecessary. The corruption may have occurred either as a result of participation in the Windows Insider program or during a Surface Pro 9 firmware update in late August 2025. The absence of a valid SKU Model Number prevents Microsoft's driver package from repairing drivers. It also prevents both business and consumer versions of the Surface Diagnostic tool from running. Meanwhile the SMF Core Driver is not loading. I could probably fix that with the correct driver package, but the driver package won't run without the correct SKU number. Otherwise, the Surface works fine. So I can afford to wait until December 2025 to send in for a complete overhaul. That's when I'll be able to lose access to it for an extended time. The rest of the firmware seems to be okay. Other than the SKU model number the information, including the serial number, appears correct.6Views0likes0CommentsSurface Provisioning package
I need some assistance with MDM enrolment for provisioning packages. I can't find what credentials I should be using for building devices and thus after assistance please. When this option for Enrol in mdm is off, some devices have gone into Intune and some haven't. I can't think or see why this is happening. They go into Entra but not Intune. I thought this was a build issue with the devices but i've tried various i.e. upgrading from a Windows 10 teams room to Teams Rooms for Windows 11, and a build media of the New Teams rooms for Windows 11 but still the same issue. I understand i need to complete this Enrol in MDM, so I need some assistance as to what credentials i should be using please. Apologies, if this is a duplicate, for some reason i was certain i had published this yesterday but i can't see this post.12Views0likes0CommentsCritical Pen Hover & Stray Ink Issue on New Surface Pro 11 for Business with Slim Pen 2
Hello Microsoft Community and Support Staff, I am writing to report a critical and seemingly widespread issue with the pen input on the brand-new Surface Pro for Business, 13-inch (Intel model, often called Surface Pro 11 "Luna Lake"). The Core Problem: Pen Draws Without Touching the Screen When using the Surface Slim Pen 2, the device begins to register ink input while the pen is still hovering a few millimeters above the screen. It does not require any physical contact or pressure. This "hover-inking" makes handwriting completely unusable. As I write, any time I lift the pen to start a new letter or stroke, the pen continues to draw a line as it moves through the air to its next position. This results in messy, connected handwriting with unwanted "tails," completely defeating the purpose of having a premium inking device. This is Not a Defective Unit - It's a Replicable Problem Initially, I thought I had a faulty device. However, to isolate the issue, I have performed extensive testing: I have personally tested this on [3] brand-new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) devices. I have used [4] different Slim Pen 2s. The exact same hover-inking problem occurred on every single combination of device and pen. Furthermore, I have already performed all standard troubleshooting steps, including: Clean OS installation via Surface Recovery Image. Ensuring all Windows, driver, and firmware updates are installed. Running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (which reported no errors). However, the same issue continues to occur even after trying these methods. Additionally, it has been reported that the issue also appears on the latest Surface Pro 12-inch model with the Snapdragon X Plus, just like on the Surface Pro 11 that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite instead of Intelâs Lunar Lake. (I do not own any Snapdragon devices myself. If you own a Snapdragon device and are experiencing the same issue, please share your feedback.)" Video Evidence: I have recorded a clear video demonstrating the problem. It shows the pen drawing while hovering on the Surface Pro 11 and makes unwanted tails on handwriting letters. Video Link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG_7BXFA-cL4evqe0RmRz--iFjDC1HVgT&si=EmEypaAqSyRozr67 Questions for Microsoft: Is this a known issue with the new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) model's firmware or drivers? What are the official steps to escalate this issue directly to the Surface engineering team for a fix? This is a major flaw in a flagship product that severely impacts its core functionality. I have submitted a formal bug report through the Feedback Hub, which can be found here: Feedback Hub Link: https://aka.ms/AAxzh27 I urge the Microsoft team to investigate this with high priority and release a firmware or software update to recalibrate the pen's Initial Activation Force (IAF). Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.62Views1like1CommentProvisioning does not add to MDM - Surface hub
When using the Windows Configuration Designer to create a provisioning package I'm unsure what to add for the MDM devices. Some devices seem to enter the MDM and some don't. Unsure if it's the build on these devices. I've looked for documentation and can't find any for what credentials to use for the following on the Enrol in device management I need to know what to enter for the following fields please. So that I can insure these devices populate into Intune. I don't know why MS make it so hard for this as the setup of the older 2s devices was much easier. Hello, since upgrading to the new Teams rooms for Windows for Windows 11 for Surface hub 2s, we've lost all the apps from the main screen. Users are now unable to run the Edge or Maps app. These are installed and available when you login as an admin however we do not want users logging in. Is there a way to get Maps to display on the main screen or where it also displays whiteboard. We do not want users logging in to the device with admin credentials or their own or that of the room devices. Is there a way users can do this through Teams, i can see Whiteboard through Teams but no other apps. regards Michael17Views0likes0CommentsApps on from Teams Rooms for Windows
Since upgrading our Surface hub 2s devices to the new Teams rooms for windows, we've lost the App options. I have users that use the Map app however this is now missing. They can run Whiteboard, however apps like Edge and Maps are now missing. We do not want them signing in to these devices like a PC user. So having the apps from the main screen was great, however these options are now gone. How do i get a user to use Maps? There's no options when running a Teams meeting to launch other app like Maps to share through Teams. I'm aware Edge is due to be added i think however we need other apps for users to use. These are available by the store, but you need to be logged in to access these apps. If someone can please assist me or advise if there's a way to get this running i'd appreciate this.14Views0likes0CommentsUnable To Install Canon Pixma G1010 With Microsoft Surface 7th Edition

Hi there, Been having issues with sleep on Surface Pro X SQ2. Essentially, when the lid closes, or it goes to sleep, it sometimes didn't wake up (needing hard restart) or rebooted / crashed during sleep. This has been going on for six or so months. I did a clean install which made no difference. After reading through event viewer, I think I have isolated it to ACPI\QCOM0472\0 - which is Qualcomm Location services - and the driver doesn't seem to install / has error messages related to it in device manager event viewer. I've disabled it in device manager and it seems to be helping. Presume its hardware related? Thanks34Views0likes0CommentsSurface Pro 8 Cover defect
Hello everyone, Iâd like to share my experience with the Microsoft keyboard for the 13-inch Surface Pro 8 with pen holder compartment. After a little more than two years of use, the keyboard stopped working. At first, I thought it was a software problem, so (after checking for updates) I followed all the reset and diagnostic procedures recommended on Microsoftâs website, including those suggesting a safe mode restart, up to a full system reset. None of this worked. I then checked on Microsoftâs website to see if it was still under warranty, but unfortunately, the two years had just passed, and the site suggested I send it in for a paid repair... Instead, I decided to look into the issue myself and discovered that the flex cable connecting the keyboardâs connector was cleanly cut right after the pen holder slot, which is made of metal. The cut occurred exactly where the metal base that holds the pen ends, at the point where the keyboard bends (see photo). It is clear that the flex cable has no protective layer to prevent the metal from cutting into it when the keyboard is bent. In my opinion, this is an obvious manufacturing defect that should be covered under warranty. It would be nice if Microsoft gave some acknowledgment in this regard. I have a Surface Latop Studio 1964 i7 and need to obtain a replacement right-hand fan (model: ND55C94 20M02). I'm baed in the UK and have done endless googling without success. Hello everyone, I need your help. I have a Surface Pro 7, and a few days ago the keyboard cover stopped working. I have a Surface Pro 5 at home, and I tested the keyboard on the Pro 7, and it works fine. The controllers are up to date, and I don't have any drivers to install. Right now, the Surface doesn't recognize the keyboard. Now, an odd question: is there a key that turns the keyboard's Bluetooth on and off? I don't want to factory reset the Surface.39Views0likes0CommentsARM Surface Laptop 7 file paths too long
We just finished a rollout of the Surface laptop 7s with the ARM processor. after a couple of weeks a have a few members of the staff who are ready to throw them out the window because they are running into constant issues with their synced sharepoint library in file explorer telling them they can't save the file because the path is lost since the file path, itself, is too long. We used to be able to work around this by extending the limitation on characters, but this no longer seems to be an option with the ARM computers. I am in desperate need of guidance. I would tell them they can use SharePoint online, but let's be real, this is one of those behaviors that's hard to break.164Views0likes2CommentsCertain keys on keyboard work inconsistently
I have rebuilt a Surface Laptop 3. I applied the most current firmware update. I applied all Windows updates. As I am typing, keystrokes are randomly missed. For instance, I will press the 'F' key and it may not recognize the key had been pressed. Additional keystokes to the same letter will then work. This is happening on a couple of keys. This is happening on more than one of our Surface Laptops and I don't think it is limited to the Surface Laptop 3. I don't feel it is a hardware issue. Almost feels like an interrupt issue that disrupts the recognition of the key being pressed. Help...38Views0likes0CommentsI have an unwanted driver called wdcsam64_prewin8.sys
Hello, I have a driver called wdcsam64_prewin8.sys. I am trying to remove it, but I can't. I tried to delete it using the command prompt, and it cannot be found in Device Manager. I have a Surface Book 2 with Windows 11, and the driver is blocking my memory integrity. I don't use any external drives or anything else, and nothing is connected to the laptop. It's still exactly as I bought it, with no changes on my part. I would be very grateful for any help! đ Best regards52Views0likes0CommentsSurface Hub S2 does not start recovery mode - what to do?
Hi everyone! We have our Surface Hub S2 in our meeting room, but after a power outage, the Hub won't boot anymore. It only comes up with the white Windows Logo and black background in an infinite loop. So, I just accepted, that I have to factory reset the device. But I am not able to boot from any USB stick. I can enter the UEFI Setup and i can update the configuration via USB stick. But when I try to start via "volume down" and power button, no recovery mode is entered. I tried all 3 USB-C slots and the USB A slot, made bootup sticks with the windows recovery tool and also with the surface IT toolkit. None worked. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to enter the recovery mode or alter the booting? Thanks, Tim1.2KViews0likes9Comments
