3 TopicsSurface Laptop 7, will not boot after system restore
Brand new Surface 7 13.8", just received the package yesterday. I've set it up for my wife, but shortly after network just started timing out querying the router's DNS server (Router is fine, multiple other phones, windows 10 & 11, linux, mac machines work without a hitch). Tried some fixes to no avail, and decided on a system restore just in case I've messed something up during setup. System restore looked like it worked, but laptop restarted and ended up with a bluescreen (something kernel something). System restore is there just fir that, right? Well, I've started it nine hours ago. Now it's just boot looping with the "preparing" bit and then shuts back down. It's been like that the whole day. I've even tried to get a USB stick to have the requisite livecd/recovery media, but it doesn't the new Surface ARM-based processor. We just finished a rollout of the Surface laptop 7s with the ARM processor. after a couple of weeks a have a few members of the staff who are ready to throw them out the window because they are running into constant issues with their synced sharepoint library in file explorer telling them they can't save the file because the path is lost since the file path, itself, is too long. We used to be able to work around this by extending the limitation on characters, but this no longer seems to be an option with the ARM computers. I am in desperate need of guidance. I would tell them they can use SharePoint online, but let's be real, this is one of those behaviors that's hard to break.180Views0likes2CommentsShould arm based surface devices use nvidia processors instead?
This might sound wired. But when I saw the Nintendo switch using a custom tegra based processor that can run mid resource intensive games while giving about 5 hours of battery life out of just a 16 whr battery, it surprised me. I kept searching nvidia’s website and found out that the tegra x1 on shield to is very powerful yet efficient. Although 10 watts may seem a lot, but it’s 20nm compared to today’s 5nm. Nvidia markets them as mobile processors, and scaling it down to 5nm means a lot of efficiency for the same performance, which should even give some headroom for to increase the power by a little margin to get some more performance. I know that the processor has older cpu and gpu but it can be simply made up by using today’s new RTX and arm counterparts.492Views0likes0Comments
