Conversations link in SharePoint - What about Teams chat?

MVP

In the Message Center, item MC126033 was published last week with the following information:

"... we have recently updated the site navigation of your team site with a conversations link to either a group mailbox or Yammer group (depending on where the site was provisioned)."

What if the site was created in Microsoft Teams? Will the link still show? If so, will it be the chat experience in Teams on the web?

yeah unfortunate it does because with Teams, there is a still a group conversation(mailbox). I complained to the SharePoint folks about this at ignite. At least they are removing it from the top right. You can always customize your Quick Launch bar and remove the now default "Conversations" link. Which I wish wasn't default and an option.

However, there is now a Teams option when adding a new link to Quick Launch in a modern page. Just pick your link type and Teams is listed. This will open Teams, then ask to open the client or just use the web. So you can get around it, it just takes some intervention. And once they remove the top right link it'll be better, although still not ideal.

Makes more sense if the SP Quick Launch Conversation menu is linked by default to the conversation in the corresponding Team as the SP team site is created from Microsoft Teams.
