Microsoft Ignite 2022 dates have been announced: October 12-14. And Microsoft continues to ship new updates and releases leading up to the event – one sure to be full of new disclosures. Until then…

July 2022 brought a load of new tech to Microsoft 365 - lots of SharePoint and related tech goodness: Record a new video from Stream start page, Video collections page, One-time passcodes from no-reply@notify.microsoft.com, AAD memberOf “Nested” Groups, Power Automate flows in Lists templates, Microsoft Lists: Calendar view conditional formatting, Review mode for Word documents, news from Microsoft Inspire 2022, and more.

We also hear from Kristina Hotz (Principal product management lead - Microsoft Identity and network access) – she brings insights about what the new brand Microsoft Entra means for identity and security, the value of memberOf "Nested" Groups in Azure Active Directory (AAD), and how to best manage permissions throughout Microsoft 365 (and beyond).

All features listed below began rolling out to Targeted Release customers in Microsoft 365 as of July 2022 (possibly early August 2022).

Inform and engage with dynamic employee experiences

Build your intelligent intranet on SharePoint in Microsoft 365 and get the benefits of investing in business outcomes – reducing IT and development costs, increasing business speed and agility, and up-leveling the dynamic, personalized, and welcoming nature of your intranet.

Record a new video from the web-based Stream start page

Microsoft 365 customers can now make demos, explainer videos, and videos to post in chats directly in Microsoft 365 with the new Stream camera. You will now be able to use the new Stream + camera integration to record their webcam, record their screen, add edits (think ink, text, backgrounds, and filters) and upload to their OneDrive.

From stream.office.com, click "+ New recording" to begin recording a new video directly within and to the Web.From stream.office.com, click "+ New recording" to begin recording a new video directly within and to the Web.

Head to Stream.office.com, select the "New Recording" button to get started. Once you're done and happy with the video, you can share directly to a Teams chat, Yammer community, and more. The video file is now in your OneDrive ready to share as you would any video file in your intranet.

Note: Once complete, the video file gets stored as a .webm file within your own OneDrive for work.

Stream on SharePoint: Video collections page

We want to make it easy to gather and display all videos from a SharePoint site in one place and as a tab in Teams entry point. Whenever people create a new site, the service auto-generates a static layouts page for video collections. This is a collection of all videos from the site's document library.

The new video collections page can be found within SharePoint sites by adding “/_Layouts/15/Video_Collections.aspx” to the end of the full site URL – as shown above. The new video collections page can be found within SharePoint sites by adding “/_Layouts/15/Video_Collections.aspx” to the end of the full site URL – as shown above.

For now, to access this new page, you need to append /_Layouts/15/Video_Collections.aspx to the end of the site url. You can then edit and publish this page as you would any other, it will start appearing in the site pages as well. And it becomes available to add as a tab using the SharePoint or Pages app in Teams when you click the "+" add a tab button.

SharePoint and OneDrive external Sharing ‘One-Time Passcode’ mails now come from no-reply@notify.microsoft.com

To improve reliability for delivery of the one-time passcode e-mails that are sent as part of the external sharing flow, we will be updating the sending address for these mails from no-reply@sharepointonline.com to no-reply@notify.microsoft.com.

This change should result in improved delivery reliability - think trusted domain, fewer share emails in spam folders - and better transparency for all customers, and their partners, who use external sharing in OneDrive and SharePoint today.

Please note, if your organization is using Azure B2B Integration with SP in Microsoft 365, this change will not impact your organization. No other e-mails sent from OneDrive or SharePoint are being changed at this time - things like newsletters, internal sharing, etc..

Microsoft Entra: memberOf "Nested" groups in Azure Active Directory (AAD) -now in Public Preview

It time to have a better means to manage group memberships with dynamic AAD security groups and Microsoft 365 groups. The ‘memberOf’ component allows you to “nest” groups within a group.

memberOf “Nested” groups allow you to create Dynamic-Group-A with members of Security-Group-X and Security-Group-Y. Members of the groups inside of Security-Group-X and Security-Group-Y don't become members of Dynamic-Group-A.memberOf “Nested” groups allow you to create Dynamic-Group-A with members of Security-Group-X and Security-Group-Y. Members of the groups inside of Security-Group-X and Security-Group-Y don't become members of Dynamic-Group-A.

The groups that define the membership of the dynamic group can be any group type represented in Azure Active Directory – user or device security groups, Microsoft 365 groups, and groups synced from on-premises, or a mix of all three. And, unlike existing nested security groups today, memberOf dynamic groups return a flat list of members, so can be used for licensing assignment and application assignment.

Microsoft 365 admins can start here: https://entra.microsoft.com (the admin portal).

Teamwork updates across SharePoint team sites, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams

Microsoft 365 is designed to be a universal toolkit for teamwork – to give you the right tools for the right task, along with common services to help you seamlessly work across applications. SharePoint is an intelligent content service that powers teamwork – to better collaborate on proposals, projects, and campaigns throughout your organization – with integration across Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Yammer, Stream, Planner and much more.

Create Power Automate flows embedded within ready-made Microsoft Lists templates

Microsoft Lists ready-made templates are getting a boost. To help improve automation of information, you now have the option to install pre-created Power Automate reminder flows whenever you create a list from select list templates: Work progress tracker, Content scheduler, and the Recruitment tracker.

Some list templates, such as the Work progress tracker shown above, come with flows that are automatically created when you create a list from that template. Some list templates, such as the Work progress tracker shown above, come with flows that are automatically created when you create a list from that template.

You'll be prompted to install the included Power Automate reminder flow after the list has been created. The reminder flow is an automated flow that runs on a schedule in the background, so it does not appear in the Lists menu, and you can further refine it using the Power Automate flow designer. And people with a Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 license, or a Power Automate per-user plan can create and use the reminder flow that is included with these select ready-made Lists templates.

Microsoft Lists: Calendar view conditional formatting

We hinted at this one in a previous roadmap pitstop when we talked about dragging-and-dropping list items from the Unscheduled pane when in Calendar view… Now you can better customize the calendar view by color coding items based on conditions or rules. You manage the rules and coloring within the 'Format current view' in the top-right section of Calendar view.

Color-code list items as they appear within Calendar view when they meet certain rules by your design through conditional formatting.Color-code list items as they appear within Calendar view when they meet certain rules by your design through conditional formatting.

Imagine the title of an item appearing green when its status is marked as "Complete" and red when its status is marked as "Not ready." Or a scenario for social content publishing calendar: you could have varying colors appear for a blog or social video asset as it goes through review, approval, and on to publishing for visual scheduling. It really brings your calendar views to life, and one of the features we've been hearing as an ask to deliver - so we hope you like it.

OneDrive/SharePoint: Review mode for Word documents

When sharing a link to a document, you can assign someone to 'Review Mode' in the Share Dialog by using the new 'Can Review' option in the permission dropdown. They'll then have access to review the document - to make edits with tracked changes intact and leave comments.

Select "Open in review mode only" when sharing Word documents to ensure the recipient can add comments or make edits that have tracked changes on by default.Select "Open in review mode only" when sharing Word documents to ensure the recipient can add comments or make edits that have tracked changes on by default.

Document owners or other collaborators who have full edit permissions - can then approve and incorporate any suggested changes to the document, or not. That's the beauty of it - great access with limited power. The power to review.
