Now in public preview: Schedule Send

Microsoft

Description

With remote work and flexible schedules gaining popularity over the past couple of years, Teams needs to offer tools that helps users build better work life balance.  With schedule send, users can schedule chat messages to be delivered at a later time. This allows users who are working outside of typical work hours to schedule messages that will deliver at the beginning of the workday so they do not disrupt their peers outside of work hours.

Flighting status

Available to everyone in Public Preview channel.

How to enable

This feature is enabled for all public preview users and end users can schedule chat messages by right clicking on the send button and selecting a time to deliver the message.  Users must then compose a message and press send to have the message scheduled.  At the delivery time, the system will automatically send the message to the recipients.

Desktop Workflow

1. Go to an existing chat or create a new one. (If creating a new one you will be required to send an unscheduled message first.)

2. Right click the send arrow to show the scheduling control.

3. Type your message.

4. Click the control text before sending or the ellipses after sending to adjust the settings.

5. Click the send control if not done in an earlier step to confirm sending.

On mobile, users can schedule a chat message by composing their message and then long pressing on the send button, which will pull up a scheduling sheet, and users can schedule send from there. Users can edit, reschedule, or delete messages after they are scheduled and before they are sent. At the delivery time, the system will automatically send the message to the recipients.

Note 1: If you need information about enabling the public preview itself, see “Enable the public preview for Teams” below.

Note 2: User needs to be in Public Preview to have access to Schedule Send feature.

Known issues

  • Some of the control strings may change between preview and GA release.
  • Some rare scenarios cause the scheduled text to take two lines.
  • Calendar scheduling control is currently in English/US format. An update will globalize the control to conform to user local as expected.
  • Chat list can show a scheduled message before it is sent. It will also show that message if it is edited or deleted until another message posts.

Known limitations

  • Can only schedule messages a maximum of 7 days into the future.
  • Does not allow scheduling urgent messages.
  • Does not support scheduled video messages or loop messages.

Enable your Teams client for the public preview

@Jan_Steberl Is this also in preview for mobile? Doesn't seem to work

Hello Jan, as was posted a month ago, it doens't work. Neither in the web version, nor in the client version. You can schedule a chat alright, but then it just isn't sent.
Would you please react?
Thank you.
