Treat a coloured cell as a %value for use in a formula

I would like to colour a cell green, orange or red to represent 100%, 50% or 0% respectively so that i can use it in a formul, ie if the cell is orange a formula uses the cell as 50% etc.

Any help gratefully accepted

Hi Brian,

I advise to do the opposite: Enter the percentage into the cell and use a conditional format to have Excel color the cell. Excel is bad at doing calculations based on formatting.
