If statements & spill

I put an if statement in a cell and it spilled into several cells below & across.  I tried to delete the spill and it wouldn't let me.  Why?

@JimEWR4now Congratulations! You have a modern Excel version. Spilling is good. What exactly are you doing? How does your formula look like?

It's ok, silly error, I forgot a quotation mark in the logic test. Hadn't seen spill before and I hate it when a piece of software stops me from deleting something. (The feeling computer intelligence is taking away my right to make my own decision and work out a problem myself). So at the moment, until I decide if Spilling is good, SPILLING IS NOT GOOD. (but might agree in the future)
