Skype for business installation and subscriptions.

Is a subscription to office 365 tied to an installation of Skype at all? In other words we had a few users log into our portal.office.com account and grab the install for Skype, downloaded and installed it. Now our subscription to 365 is expiring in a few weeks. We have a new subscription as we merged with a new company. Can we simply log into the same installation for Skype with the new Skype accounts? Or must we re-download and install using the other companies portal. Does the Skype software stop working? Or simply the account that expires and Skype for business doesn’t care where the software came from? I can’t inagine the software just not working...

Depends on whether you installed it as part of Office or not. To be on the safe side, best use the Basic installer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49440
