Stop published news items appearing on the main SharePoint Site Contents

We have a SharePoint site with news items for a club (we are a school). When club members publish their news pages, they automatically appears on the SharePoint Site Contents page:

We do not want news stories from the club site to appear here. I know they will only be visible by users with permission to that site. But this is just a fun club site and does not warrant having that prominance.

I also understand it is possible to unpublish the page by changing the Promoted State to 0 (using a Power Automate flow). But that requires intervention to change this after the page has already been published. What I would prefer to do is exempt news stories from this site from appearing there.

Does anyone know of a way of achieving this?

There isn't any function ootb for this, you're only way to do this OOTB is to teach them to use Page function instead of news function. This sets the posts as 0 instead of 2.


Other than that, It would be a flow trigged when a new item is created and change it to 0
