Shredded Storage for OneNote file format

Steel Contributor

Hello,

Does someone know whether 'Shredded Storage' is active for a OneNote file format (.one) in SharePoint Online?

Best regards

Tobias

May I ask you why do you need to know this? Implementation details like this are only known by the teams at Microsoft managing SPO. My guess is that is implemented and it's, as you know, not a question of file types stored in SPO

We have a SharePoint site configured with a quota of 10 GB. Yesterday the storage space was fine. Today morning my colleagues informed me they are not able to change their notes on the site, the storage is full. I checked the storage metrics and saw the site has now a size of 78 GB. One OneNote file had 30 GB. For a test I deleted all 50 versions, then the OneNote file was reduced to 1 GB. The size of the last version. The storage between 10 and 78 GB is consumed by OneNote files only.

I thought Shredded Storage will not save each version again? But in our situation that is the case. At least for .one files.
