Removing a User

Brass Contributor

When i remove a user from Office365 Admin, shouldn't it also remove that user from SharePoint? I should not have to go in and remove the users from all SharePoint sites where they exist, right?

It removes them from *some* locations, others you might want to clean up manually. There's a detailed article on this here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3026385/how-to-remove-users-from-sharepoint-online

There's also the option that the sync jobs fail, so the user object remains in the user profile list. In such occasions you might have to raise a support case.

Man, I thought that this would be taken care of as part of the delete user process... that's a bummer having to deal with that like we did On-prem :P.

I mean a simple get-sposite | remove-user will remove them from everything long as you do that as part of offboarding but still, meh! :).

A bigger bummer was the fact that removing a user that was Term store admin didn't clean up the permissions on the store, resulting in very observable delays on any page with managed metadata. Now that was a fun issue to troubleshoot over a several month period...
