Metadata Columns missing information or filling other metada when copy to new site

Hi

I set up a communication site with exactly the same document library column set up as another site with the intention of only putting approved/final files in there however when I copy the files to the new site some metadata columns are blank and another is using values from a completely different term set. How do I retain the information moving from one document library to another?
