Hi
I am having trouble creating a sharepoint list from a template. I am not getting the option. When I click New I get the drop down to select a list or document library etc.
But when I click list, instead of taking me to the Create A List Page as the Microsoft Documentation describes, I get a sidebar come in from the right, where I can enter a name and description, and then get taken straight to a blank list.
There is no option coming up to even choose a template. I have tried to follow the documentation but my experience is not as described there. Is there a setting or a feature I am missing that anyone knows about?

Select + New list to open the Create a list chooser. ...
Select the template you want, and select Use template. ...
Enter a name for your list, an (optional) description, select an (optional) color, icon, site to save to, and then click Create. (advertising link removed)
