Outlook changes the "Modified" field when moving/copying a Contact.

Copper Contributor

Hi friends!

I use Outlook 2021.
When I copy/move a Contact item from one Contacts folder to another Contacts folder, the "Modified" field gets updated to the current date. I don't modify the Contact itself... I only move it or copy it.
Is there a way to keep the "Modified" field unchanged?

Thank you for your help,
Martin

Hi @MartinVN.,

here is a workaround to keep the “Modified” field unchanged:

  • Close Outlook: Make sure Outlook is completely closed before proceeding.
  • Access Registry Editor: Search for "regedit" in the Start menu and press Enter.
  • Navigate to Key: Locate this specific key in the registry editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
  • Create New Value: Right-click in the empty space on the right pane, select "New" then "DWORD (32-bit) Value".
  • Name the Value: Give the new value the name "ModifyContactTimestampOnMove".
  • Set Value Data: Double-click the newly created value and change its data to "0".
  • Save and Restart: Click "OK" to save the changes and then reopen Outlook 2021.

Hi Leon,

Thank you for your input!
Unfortunately, this method doesn't work, I've tried it.
