Meeting side panel is empty for third party apps

Copper Contributor

We have noticed that some users are getting a completely empty meeting side panel when pressing on the icon of third party apps.  This occurs whilst in a meeting.  This behaviour has been noticed using multiple third party apps that utilise the meeting side panel.

It appears that a consistent workaround to fixing the issue is to first click on the 'chat' icon to load the chat in the meeting side panel.  After the chat has proprely loaded you can select a third party app instead and it will then load without issue.

It appears to happen most commonly when the users are part of a different organisation to the host of the meeting, although it has been noticed by users of the same organisation as the host as well.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what is happening.  The workaround is not really an easy one to explain to other people in the call.

The issue you described regarding the empty meeting side panel in Microsoft Teams when accessing third-party apps is not uncommon, and it might be linked to certain configurations or settings within the Teams environment. While it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact cause without a detailed investigation, there are some steps you can take to address this issue and minimize its impact:

Update Microsoft Teams: Ensure that all users have the latest version of Microsoft Teams installed, as software updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that can resolve such issues.

Check Meeting Policies: Review the meeting policies in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center to ensure that the relevant policies allow the use of third-party apps during meetings. Adjust the policies if necessary to permit the use of these apps.

Clear Cache and Data: Instruct affected users to clear their Teams cache and data. Sometimes, outdated or corrupted cache files can cause various display issues within the application.

Restart the Application: Encourage users to restart the Teams application if they encounter the empty meeting side panel. This simple step can often resolve temporary glitches or loading errors.

Contact Microsoft Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They can provide more targeted guidance and help troubleshoot the issue based on the specific configuration and setup of your Teams environment.

Communicate these troubleshooting steps to the affected users to help them resolve the issue or minimize its impact while working to identify a more permanent solution.
