Apeman webcam crashes in Teams meeting

Copper Contributor

Hello everyone!

I have a slight problem during Teams meetings.

We start a video conference in our development team where I use my Apeman A79 as a webcam on a Windows 10 PC.

It does work for a couple of seconds but after that my camera video freezes and suddenly the camera is turned off.

This doesn't happen when I make a test call in Teams (via settings -> devices -> make a test call).

When I use the normal windows camera app I am able to record with no problem, the camera only crashes in a Teams video call.

Might be a problem with the camera but it only occurs when using Teams.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Best regards,

Nils Balke

The easy answer would be that it is not a certified camera for Teams, you can find the certified ones here:

http://aka.ms/teamsdevices

But try if you can use that camera via Teams Web App (use new Edge browser or Chrome), https://teams.microsoft.com

You could also check if it is possible to change resolution on the camera or other settings, like Hz.

Thanks for your quick answer!

I tried fiddling around with the camera's settings and using the web app, but sadly none of that seems to work. Camera still keeps crashing even though it works with other Windows apps.

But I also found out that you can connect to a Teams meeting on a PC and on a smart phone at the same time. So now I use my phone as camera and do everything else on PC.

Not perfect but it works.

Hi Nils,

Not just you, it is caused by a recent (March 2020) MS Teams update which is affecting Logitech Camera's as well. We're seeing a lot of our end users report the same, not a good look for Microsoft i'm afraid...
