Show a number in a specific format?

Copper Contributor

Ik have a formula which creates a number. This number is for example 15123456 with no decimals. I am looking for a way to show the number in the following format -> 15123.456

So i need only one thousand separator after the first 3 numbers but NOT after 6 numbers. Can anyone help me with this issue?

To display a number in Excel with a specific format where there's a thousand separator after the first 3 numbers and no separator after the next 3 numbers, you can use a custom number format.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Select the cell or range where you want to apply the custom number format.
  2. Right-click the selected cell(s) and choose "Format Cells" from the context menu.
  3. In the "Format Cells" dialog box, go to the "Number" tab.
  4. In the "Category" list, select "Custom."
  5. In the "Type" field, enter the following custom number format:

#,##0,,"."

This custom format specifies that the first three digits are separated by a thousand separator, then there is a space for three more digits, and finally a decimal point.

  1. Click "OK" to apply the custom number format to the selected cell(s).

Your number, for example, 15123456, will now be displayed as 15,123.456 with a thousand separator after the first 3 numbers and no separator after the next 3 numbers. The text was created with the help of AI.
