merging an excel file with word document. the number $100.00 in excel is showing as 100 in the word document. Help

You have to format the merge field(s) in the merge document in Word.
In Word, click in the merge field and press Shift+F9, or right-click in the merge field and select Toggle Field Codes.
You should see something like
{ MERGEFIELD Amount }
or
{ MERGEFIELD Amount \* MERGEFORMAT }
Change it to look like this:
{ MERGEFIELD Amount \# "$#,0.00" }
Press F9 to hide the field code and to update the result.
