How do I keep the gridlines when I color more than one cell?
example if I color 5 cells - my gridlines disappear

By only applying color in the form of a Style, which also applied boundary formats and cell protection. You can define/modify your own styles to meet the needs of your workbooks.

Maybe you are right but I do not believe it to be so. I used a white or pale colour fill for many years because I saw no benefit in placing my numbers in little boxes. If I wanted to define a heading or the foot of a table, the gridlines can be replaced by a border coloured as white, darker 15%.
Now I am kinder and simply use View / Hide Gridlines so that the end-user can reinstate the grid if they think it serves some purpose.
