Change in Formatting and Color

Brass Contributor

Hi,

Attached is the worksheet wherein I would like to have cell E5 in red color but should have upward arrow and showing positive value instead of (-) negative. Also, the format should work in a way that if the value is positive as appearing in cell E4, it should appear as per current format in green color.

Thanks.

To achieve the desired formatting and color changes in Excel for cell E5, where positive values are displayed with an upward arrow and in red color, you can use a custom number format along with conditional formatting. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Select cell E5.
  2. Go to the "Home" tab on the Excel ribbon.
  3. Click on the "Conditional Formatting" dropdown in the "Styles" group.
  4. Choose "New Rule...".
  5. In the "New Formatting Rule" dialog, select "Format only cells that contain".
  6. In the first dropdown, select "Cell Value".
  7. In the second dropdown, select "greater than or equal to".
  8. In the textbox next to it, enter 0.
  9. Click on the "Format..." button.
  10. Go to the "Number" tab.
  11. Select "Custom" from the category list.
  12. In the "Type" textbox, enter the following custom number format:

 [Green]+0;[Red]\0;   (draft file is insert)

This format will display positive values in green color and negative values (or zero) in red color with an upward arrow.

  1. Click "OK" to close the "Format Cells" dialog.
  2. Click "OK" again to apply the conditional formatting rule.

Now, cell E5 should display positive values in green color and negative values with an upward arrow in red color. Ensure that you have entered the positive and negative values correctly in cells E4 and E5 respectively for testing the formatting. The text and steps were edited with the help of AI.
