Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!
Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.
Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.
Community voice
When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!
You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.
Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.
We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."
The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.
What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.
We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!
Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

when using Debugging tools, if on the sources tab, then Alt-Tab should switch tabs within the sources

What would be cool...
- sidebar
- REAL customizable status-bar
- decision where to locate tabs - over the url-bar or under the url-bar
- generally more UI customization options.. Chromium lacks of this

Well you cant please everybody all the time but if people use edge based on chrome and don't swap to chrome its a win for Microsoft as for yourself you would always gravitate towards a more customisable browser I think this is for the majority of users not the handful who want to tinker@Sajadi

I use a browser for 2 main things. 1 is browsing but the second is for debugging. I spend my entire day in debug tools so the better the experience for debugging is, the more i will gravitate to it for my work life. As for browsing itself, i always used IE over anything else because i liked the way it worked better but when true Edge came out, and the dropped support for IE, i moved away from it. I found myself using Firefox for every day browsing. Now that Edge is based on the engine i use the most, i thought i would give it a try. I can't say that it has advantages yet over Chromium itself but my hope is that MS can take it to new heights. I have supported MS for many years but with some of the recent moves they have made, i am less and less a supporter.

@Ready4Martinis
There seems to be a wide-spread feeling that it is, very, fast, snappy & stable. The level of (its) performance seems high & unquestioned. Ergo, we, are, mostly concerned with Features; past, present & coming and what people like & or do not want removed.
Cheers,
Drew

@Drew1903 Update : Dark mode working ok. I tend to flip between dark & light modes on my system, purely depending on my frame of mind (don't read anything into that! ☺)
Thanks.

t seams to me they are listening a bit more but it will take a lot of voices to get changes made lots and lots shouting I used ie as my main browser but don't trust it now@tstauffer

@Elliot KirkAre you planning to support Dolby vision (or HDR) as previous Edge? I am using lenovo thinkpad X1 carbont 6th that has dolby vision (or HDR). The color was great when I was using previous version of Edge, but now in this new Chromium Edge, colors doesn't look as good as before. Please support HDR! If so, this browser will be my go-to browser.

Geordie,
We, really, do not recommend IE, anymore. It should be considered passe, obsolete. It lingered about, was kept, for a while, for a few Enterprise environments feeling they had to, still, have it for legacy programs they had. It will be totally gone or irrelevant, soon including, its Support.
Cheers,
Drew

I honestly have a hard time thinking MS listens to anything these forums say. I have posted to many forums and never get any responses from MS. And nothing I suggest, bug or otherwise, seems to get fixed. And yet here I am... Sometimes I wonder why :)
For me, right now, there is no compelling reason to use Edge over Chrome. I use Canary for all of my debugging and there is nothing to compete with it. IFF MS would take Chromium and expend it over what Chrome can do, then they might take the browser back but they have a long way to go IMHO.

@petedavison93
Pete,
Hi & welcome. It seems that, at least, 99.9% of us are seeing the same things as 'missing' & figuring that, at least, by release time they will not be missing, any longer. The common ground is the items you mention & more. Things we reckon should just be 'givens' and stick to the status quo. Not, closed to change, but, some same items we repeatedly hear must stay. Ergo, what we are figuring/expecting, really, does need to be reality not, be wistful hope or wishful thinking that comes to naught AND OR not, still, be waiting 🤞🏻 after release. Say the things here and submit them via Mr. Smiley :). Feedback thoughts & comments are received, read & acknowledged. It is wrong for Folks to think Feedback is a waste & does nothing. The fact is Insiders exist for good reason with their input being invaluable. Stuff IS done based on Insider use & response. It does give important guidance to Build Teams. It is effective & not ignored, at all. We have seen the results. The suggested process is not rubbish, it helps, is taken seriously & does garner appropiate action.
Anyway, you're not alone. Most of us are all seeing (or not seeing ;)) the same things. Be hard to not hear what we are all saying 🤞🏻. But, we ought to keep saying it, anyway, me thinks.
It is, true, one cannot help but notice the speed! :cloud_with_lightning:
Cheers,
Drew

@Elliot Kirk well there is a big market out there for users who enjoy using Microsofts apps & services outside of the Windows platform. Having the new MS Edge available on Linux would make users using Edge on distros based on (Debian, SUSE, Arch, Fedora .etc) very happy ;)
✔Most users are already familiar with the Browser and it's UI (Clean, Simple, Secure, Fast)
✔Running services such as Office 365 apps via Edge browser in a Linux Enviroment
✔You'll receive plenty of feedback from developers on that platform as well on how to improve this browser for the modern web period
MS Edge Dev team just gotta make sure it's available as a Simple install from the Gnome Software App could be (Snap/Flatpak) or simple few lines of code on the official webpage for users to add to their linux terminal to get the correct repositories and get a stable released installed and running should be a piece of cake...

@LennardInsider @Elliot Kirk Agreed, same with PDF's please - I always thought that was a great feature.
