Windows 11 Printer Issue - DYMO LW450 DUO is not installing correctly/entirely

This issue occurs in Windows 11

The expected result is that both DYMO LW450 DUO Label and LW450 DUO Tape install correctly, however only the LW450 DUO Label installs while the LW450 DUO Tape's status is displayed as "Error". The device was connected with USB.

There seem to be issues with other manufacturers (Brother, Canon, HP, etc.) when installing multiple printers/scanners and the root cause of this instance may be related

Please respond regarding the status of this issue or workarounds for Windows 11.

Thanks,
David
DYMO Development Team

Is anyone having the same issue with the 550 series?  I am trying to get it set up, but every time I open either connect or Label v.8, it will open for a brief moment and then close out.  My computer recognizes the printer and I can print a test label, but the applications just will not work.  I have a ticket opened with Dymo's support and I am awaiting their response.

I do also have the same issue with my Labelwriter 450 Turbo on my Windows 11. But as i upgraded my Windows 10 machine with the public beta programme it worked. But as i got a new PC with a final release of Windows 11 i have not been able to make it work. It says not connected. From time to time it says connected when i fidle around with drivers, but even though it says connected, nothing comes out of the printer when sending a print from the Dymo Labelwriter application,

Same issue Duo 450 was working fine until Windows 11 update...now even reverting back to Windows 10 I cannot get both label and tape to work without making one or the other my default each time I use it.

After contacting microsoft support, the problem is expected to be resolved in the May 22 update.
    No guarantees

Bartosz_Walczak do we know if this fix was included in the May update? I seem to have had the May update (KB5013943) installed, but still have the same problem. Wondering if I need to do something additional like re-install the printer driver.

There has not been any communication from MS or Dymo about this..... I have just tried a complete uninstall / reinstall of drivers and SW but the May update doesn't appear to have done anything to resolve the issues....

DavidR_DYMO- are you able to shed any light on this ongoing massive frustration please ?
I have rather been hoping that Dymo, as the printer manufacturer, would have been dramatically more dynamic in pressing MS for a solution........ 5 months down the line and still nothing tangible.

        Best regards,

        Kevin

Danke für die gute News, muss man dann das Programm von Dymo Deinstallieren und neu Installieren?

Thank you for the update ! That is good news - I have had several sessions with MS but it has been extremely slow / difficult to get meaningful traction. They had previously said it would be addressed but no clear indication of 'when' until now. So well done !
      Many thanks,
      Best regards,

    Hello Dymo Users,

As I've separately advised to David, I raised a Fault Report with Microsoft on 21st January. When I enquired this week regarding developments, they confirmed they were looking at the problem and that a patch will be released to fix it. It sounded like it would be included in a Patch Tuesday release, though no timescale was given. I was promised that they would give me an update (not sure when!). If nothing heard I will follow up.

I imagine that the more such reports they receive, the more seized they might become to delivering  a permanent  fix ! Here's the link to the page to start off a report:

Or you can use the 'Get Help' App within Windows - here's a handy link to that too:

    Best regards,

KevinW  I contacted MS about this issue too, 3rd party  (I assume) "tech" remoted in to check the issue, by the time they were done it didn't work at all, then when I tried reinstalling now my printer prints one label and feeds out 10-15 more blank ones, every time. I am supposed to get an email about the original issue though tbc...

Nice one. Let's hope Microsoft sort this annoyance.
I look forward to seeing the fix.

Have just been on a series of chats/calls with MS. Description of the issues with Dymo 450 Duo have also been inserted via the Feedback Hub again and the details extracted and forwarded to the Engineering Team directly by 2nd Line Support. They also now have this blog/forum in view and I understand are now actively addressing the fault. Not sure whether the previous information about a patch being worked on was correct or not. MS may well need to collaborate with Dymo (David) to achieve a resolution..... Further feedback on developments has been promised....

        Best regards,

Just to add, this is definitely a Windows 11 issue. I have been trying to find a solution for 2 days for my LabelWriter 450 Duo. I have tried the latest software from Dymo and even tried 2 previous versions. Same issue. Label Side is fine, Tape side is not recognised.
The only way I managed to get the Tape side to work on Windows 11, was to manually delete the Label Printer, and Manually install the Tape Printer in the Windows settings.
NOTE: This only worked until I disconnected the printer from USB and re-attached. It then defaulted back to Label and the Tape side is shown as permanently "not connected".
I then tried the printer on an iMAC for completeness. Works straight away (both printers) using the latest download from Dymo for Mac. The printer is therefore confirmed fine.
Let's hope Microsoft eventually admit liability and fix the issue.

I have found that if I disconnect the Label Printer's USB cable after shutting down the PC (leaving the separate Tape one connected) and then reconnect the Label USB once the PC has fully booted up, I am able to maintain stable operation with both Tape and Label printers.

This arrangement is only viable due to having 2 separate Dymo Duo 450s - and that purely because the Tape printer in the original one had failed (mechanical) and I had bought a new machine intended to replace it.

I'm not seeing any response from MS in this forum which I would have expected by now since the Vendor (Dymo) have formally raised the matter with them....

I installed Windows 11 in mid-October 2021 and immediately got the problem with the Duo450.

At the end of November 2021, I opened my first ticket with DYMO Germany. No solution.

So far, the compatibility chart on DYMO.COM shows that the printer is compatible with Windows 11, but it isn't. I cannot see any information about the Windows 11 issue on DYMO.COM.

The printer is still being sold and Windows 11 has been out for almost four months. Windows 11 customers should be informed before purchasing that the printer will not work at this time.

      Thanks for posting.
i've been searching for a few days aswell.
At one point i got the tape working aswell just can't remember how. Most likely it's like you described it.

I hope Microsoft comes with a fix for this problem too. I'm unable to use it now.

IF (!) you happen to have two Dymo printers, it is possible to use a workaround to this issue; the first machine has to be installed as the Tape printer (on USB001 port, which is the usual default) and the second as the Label printer on a different port (eg. USB002). With this arrangement, you can then toggle between the two printers / respective label types in the Label software (either Label v.8 or Dymo Connect) and be able to print successfully. I have however found that it only seems to be stable if the Tape machine is plugged in directly to a primary USB port on the PC, while the Label machine seems OK via several tiers of USB hubs.

What appears to have been broken by Win 11 is the ability to support two multifunction devices through a common USB Port.

What this really needs (as David from Dymo tech support has clearly flagged) is a permanent fix with a software patch from Microsoft. Soon would be really helpful, please !!

Having the same problem with the exact same printer. I contacted Dymo about the issue as well and they stated:

    Thank you for contacting DYMO.

I'm really sorry to hear about your issue, unfortunately it is created because on Windows 11 there is some issue with all printers have 2 different option to print as LabelWriter 450 duo.

Please contact Microsoft they soon will be provide an update for resolve this issue.

    Have a great day.

        No update from Dymo.
They say it is a Windows 11 problem.

        I tested this:
installed Windows 10 and Dymo Connect --> printer works
upgraded the same system to Windows 11 --> printer does not work anymore (even after reinstalling drivers etc)
Downgraded the same system to Windows 10 --> it worked again.
