Volume fircibly adjusted on each call start
Hello,
I'm using USB headphones which work fine on 2% volume. The issue is, MS Teams forcibly adjusts volume to 20% each time I start call. Unfortunately this provides quite a bang to my ears. Is there some way to disable this "feature"?
Thanks
- jmcareyBrass ContributorI've been dealing with this issue for a couple years now and tried every variation of suggestion. I think this has actually damaged my hearing at this point. I have to remember to hold my headphones away from my ears at the start of every call.
Microsoft do better. - Valtteri_LanttaCopper ContributorI'm having exactly the same problem on Sep 21 2023! The overall Windows volume for my earphones is good at 2 %. I've left all applications in the volume mixer at 100 % as default. When connecting to a Teams meeting or opening device settings during a meeting, the volume increases to 20 % which is way too loud and I have to quickly turn it down.
I figure the idea behind increasing the volume is to reduce cases where people wouldn't hear anything because of having their volume set too low but this is a wrong way of solving that issue. The least Microsoft should do is to add a setting in Teams to disable this behavior.- Thomas_BentleyCopper Contributor
I am using a headphone set over USB. And this issue is physically painful. I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread but to no avail. Microsoft, please fix this issue NOW!
- TzenethCopper ContributorI'm having the issue as well. I use a usb based headset that I have the volume set to 10% and it jumps to 20% whenever I accept a teams call. Weirdly, this only occurs on my work laptop rather than my home desktop. I've tried messing with all the settings people have mentioned and it doesn't seem to do anything or fix the issue.

Piling on with everyone else here... June 2023 and I'm now getting to "enjoy" this issue for the first time! I've previously used a USB headset for Teams calls, but today I decided to try listening to music between calls with my bluetooth earbuds (fairly cheap Skullcandy buds, in case that matters). Tried adjusting the app volume in system settings, but at the start of a new call it automatically resets to 100; also tried adjusting device volume within the Teams call, but again, it resets to the (way too loud) default with every call. I'm sure I can dig deeper into my sound preferences and settings and maybe find a solution, or try updating drivers. However, the fact that it takes this much effort on the consumer's behalf, despite this being a known issue for four years now, is ridiculous. Especially considering that this is putting peoples' hearing at risk.

Issue still seems to be present on a users Teams. Have submitted to MS Service health for review.
- StevenGardnerCopper ContributorSame! I have had this issue for months now. Changed all the settings in previous suggestions, but new calls in Teams always comes up at 100% blowing my ears out.

these are the steps i took today and it seems to work and the setting stayed thru a couple teams calls so far. when i got to the headset properties box it was set on 100!!!! omg how stupid. i'm using knockoff airpods. these steps didn't work for my coworker who had a headset with a mic. her problem is she can't hear anything.
- coolfireCopper ContributorI work at a fairly small company (just over 50 people) and this is a known issue for several of our employees. I'm shocked that fixing an bug that's potentially causing hearing damage to thousands of people (likely way more if my small sample size is representative) is somehow not the absolute number one item on the agenda. I don't know what could possibly be a higher priority issue then when your software is ACTIVELY HARMING PEOPLE.

This issue is still present as of december 2022.
Joining a teams meeting will set the whole windows volume to 50% (in my case, this is too low, everything is 100% and i control the volume with my extrenal sound card, i fear for people who do the opposite, ears are fragile)
Not only that, playing with the volume slider when joining a team changes the literal "overall" windows volume.
This is terrible.
- asdfasdfasdfasdfCopper ContributorHow to stop it increasing volume to 20%??? It does it with the new update! my ears...! Such a shame for MS! Unbelievable!
- rcosnitaCopper ContributorI started to encounter this issue after upgrading to Windows 11 unfortunately. The same setup was working great on windows 10. Now I started to be afraid of joining meetings because I might go deaf :(.
I do hope MS Teams will address the issue, as TEAMS is the only application with this annoying problem.

I'm having the same issue as of 2020-08-05, none of the Microsoft forum suggestions relating to this topic have worked. I'm submitting a ticket, but Microsoft really needs to get on this. target-san

I was able to resolve the issue. I changed some settings and I'm not sure which one actually solved the problem.
Sound Control Panel - there are 2 devices for the Bose headset. While connected, change the default device and try each one. This configuration is working for me, when connecting to a meeting the speaker level is where I left it, not max'd out. (This also solved the problem of distorted music)

The trouble is I have two different devices, a headset with a mic, and a nice pair of headphones for everything else. I have the nice pair set as default device, with the mic set as default communication device. The "App Volume and Device Preferences" advanced settings in the windows sound settings panel has volume adjustments for Teams when it's open. If I adjust it to a reasonable level, it will just auto adjust back to 100 every time a new call starts. I've turned off all audio adjustments, but I'm pretty sure this is a windows issue not setting child windows of Teams to the same volume and putting the default new window at 100 volume (Perhaps only for the default communication device).

target-san Well. here we are a year or so since you and many others called for help on this volume problem, and still no solution from the Teams, Windows or Microsoft teams.
For no apparently logical reason, my 1.3.00.13565 (64-bit) version of Teams on Windows 10 build 1909 keeps setting the Windows Volume Mixer sound settings for Teams to 100% after every restart of either Windows or the teams App.
Very annoying.

as of 07/20/2020, I verify that on my system, teams connect with 100% volume on every call, and still the only way to change volume is to change every instance of Teams showing up on the advanced win10 Sound system setting. hardware volume button doesn't work, and Teams software volume control does nothing.
and I am using "Teams approved" headset.
This is ridiculous.

I have the same problem. Had the app volume settings open during a meeting and the slider kept adjusting itself back up toward 100% during the meeting. 2020ih
- Lewis-HIron ContributorTo select the mic, speaker, and camera you want Teams to use for calls and meetings, click your profile picture at the top of Teams, then Settings > Devices. Under Audio devices, pick the speaker and mic you want Teams to use by default.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using bluetooth headphones (Jabra) and my PC volume is set to 50%. When I start a call the volume on Teams is too loud so I use the device settings within Teams to adjust it, however just clicking the bar brings the volume down to where I want it.
For example; call starts and it is too loud. I look at the device settings and it appears to be at 40%. I adjust it down a little to say 30% but it is a very dramatic drop in volume, I then adjust it back to 40% and it's perfect. Next call comes through and 40% is too loud, move the slider down then back to the original position and the volume is perfect again. It's like Teams is boosting the volume to a set level until you touch the volume control then it recognises your desired settings.
Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this? I'm going to hit up our internal tech guys as well so if we come up with a solution i'll post it but they're fairly new to Teams as it has only recently been deployed in the organisation.
Thanks everyone
