One of my long-standing gripes with the Message Center in Office 365 has been the lack of email notifications for new messages. It's caused me in the past to miss the early warning of some important changes that weren't announced elsewhere. So I developed a PowerShell script to check the Message Center daily and email me any new messages. As it turns out, email notifications might be coming to the Message Center, but since the feature hasn't shown up yet for any of my tenants, I have finished cleaning up my script and I'm sharing it publicly for anyone else who would find it useful. A new version of the Azure AD module for PowerShell is on the way. The prefix for cmdlets changes from Msol to AzureAD, some cmdlets are dropped, some new cmdlets are available, and some parameters change too. All in all, it's going to be fun updating all the scripts that admins have developed to help automate Office 365 operations, not to mention the need to test everything afterwards... Recent updates to the Office 365 admin experience include a new OneDrive for Business admin center, new settings to manage Microsoft Teams and GigJam, and improvements to the new Service health dashboard. Office 365 Weekly Digest | April 16 - 22, 2017 Lots of new features for Outlook, Office 365 Groups and OneNote Class Notebook are included in last week’s Message Center notifications, as well as an update to the OneDrive and SharePoint Online sharing experience. Also, this is the last reminder for SharePoint Online Public Websites going away– if you need more time to move your public site, you have until April 30th to request a one-time postponement for 12 months. New to the Upcoming Events is a virtual class where you can learn, through extensive hands-on labs, how Enterprise Mobility+ Security (EMS) can help keep the employees in your company productive on their favorite apps and devices and your company’s data protected. Last week’s blog roundup includes the announcement of Microsoft To-Do, details on some of the security and compliance features of Microsoft Teams as well as insight into DNS intrusion detection in Office 365. However, the major news is all focused on the Office 365 ProPlus updates that were announced – Office 365 ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support will be required to connect to Office 365 services starting October 13, 2020.More information and resources are included in this week’s post and I would recommend reviewing them in detail. Office 365 Weekly Digest | March 5 - 11, 2017 It was a light week for Message Center notifications with only two – one for upcoming changes to the Yammer Analytics Dashboard and the other for a new SharePoint Online feature with personalized news on the home page in Office 365. Microsoft Teams will reach General Availability (GA) on Tuesday, March 14th and we’re hosting an online event to mark the occasion. There are other Teams-related event opportunities through early April, as well as an upcoming webinar on successful Office 365 adoption. Microsoft Teams also takes center stage in one of last week’s blog posts, outlining a different approach for release. Additional blog posts from last week cover a new Office 365 profile experience and device-based conditional access policies for SharePoint and OneDrive for Business. Has anyone noticed the tremendous lack of consistency between the admin centers? the pages that list large number of items look and behave like they were made by entirely different companies. Some pages provide searching, sorting, filtering and column customization, but many do not. It is obvious that there is not a master plan/specification/program manager overseeing all of the admin centers. Hopefully Microsoft will address this sooner, rather than later because it becoming a total mess. One example that just came to my attention are the Admin pages for Power Apps and Flow are very different, yet they are in the same Admin Center and at some level, from the same organization. There are many other example of totally different user experiences on different admin focused pages. These types of inconsistencies are becoming all to common in the admin features for O365 services/apps. It does not matter if the page is listing users, groups, sites, flows, PowerApps or anything else, every page that lists many items should be searchable, filterable, and sortable. This is basic functionality that should be part of the minimum viable product specifications. Another big inconsistency it the varying approaches to People Pickers. Adding a user, should be identical for every service/app, but it is not.
