2026.02.20 - Planner UI update is worse
The UI changes to Planner within the latest Teams desktop app update (version 26032.208.4399.5) has regressed in its functionality and is worse than before. Previously, all of the contents of an item in the Planner were visible at the same time. Now I have to tab between Task Details, Attachments and Checklist, and am unable to view these at once, which has become a critical workflow for me. It is extremely irritating, as I've developed a workflow around how Planner was presented (which was that everything within a task was visible at once), and now it has been compartmentalised. Please unwind this - it is a regressive update and provides less information and requires more interaction to work through the detail of a task.2.1KViews22likes15CommentsUpcoming Planner release @chat feature
in the upcoming release of Planner features, it mentions that the comments will be replaced with a chat. Do I assume that the chat and @mentions are tied to who is assigned to the Task? ie. if the Task is assigned to Mary, will I be able to type Mary but I won't be able to type John (as John is not assigned the task)? Tasks chats in basic plans will allow team members to collaborate directly on tasks using rich text formatting and @mentions, making it easier to discuss work and notify teammates about what needs attention.1.4KViews4likes12CommentsWay to see all Planner tasks assigned to a team member?
Is there a way to see all project tasks assigned to a team member? Or is this functionality on the radar? I can see all my assigned tasks, and I can see tasks by person by project, but as a manager, I would like a way to see all tasks assigned to my team members across all of their projects/functional areas, so that we can quickly evaluate their current workload, reprioritize and assign new tasks accordingly. What I'm thinking is that there would be a filter option to see buckets by team member of their collective project tasks, like the view currently available right now by individual projects. Interested in the capability to overlay multiple projects. Thanks!57KViews29likes45CommentsPlanner conversations and filtering issues
Hi Everyone, I am really puzzled about Planner in it's current form and I hope someone here can point me to the thing I am missing here. I have a big project on hand with a big team and I initiated using planners to get this sorted. In the past I have used many solutions but since the company is Microsoft Foccused the Microsoft Planner seems the right way. Every plan I open starts with loads of completed tasks in sight. Of course I can filter them out, but besided the hassle of having to do that every time it also breaks the functionality of adding subtasks. I have to undo the filter, dive trough a list of stuff that's already been completed, at the subtask, reinstate the filter. We are talking about a paid planning solution here..... Secondly I can not get the task conversation to work. We used this alot before we had a premium subscription and now the function seems broken. I have been through the hassle of copying the planner and adding it to a new Teams channel, but still no dice. When I click the conversation button. Nothing happens. I tried opening the planner in the browser and making it link itself back to it's channel, but no dice. Our fairly easy planning needs are resulting in loads of headace right now and I really hope there is something I am missing and this isn't just what it is.. Every tip wil be much appreciated. Kind regards, Karim360Views2likes1CommentProject desktop vs Planner + project Plan 3
We are trying to plan our projects using ms Planner Premium (Plan 3). However, I get very confused because of the so many product names, subscription name, soon ending products, etc. my questions are: Which desktop tool of microsoft for project planning is running currently. If it's "Microsoft Project Online Desktop Client MSO" can this be synced with the planner premium (Plan 3)?, if yes how? I have an excel list of a Project plan with the columns below: can i manage my project in planner premium? if yes, are all this custom fields deployed in dataverse, so that I can access them from power bi? i have a project plan in an excel file with this columns. now i want to create this project plan in project plan 3, how to do it? I created a Teams Team and want to manage a premium plan project therein. I have the Planner-Plan 1 license. One external supplier is a guest in my Team but he cannot see the Premium plan. Is this by design or is there any wrong setting in my system? I could not find any information on this in the Microsoft documentation. Facts The guest user is part of the team222Views1like3CommentsCreating groups in Planner
I lead a team of 20 who each partner with 5 other people on external teams (to us but still internal to the company). I have been using the planner to give each 1:5 ratio group a single place to track status on tasks. However, every time I want to make a new group to add to the planner, I have to request it via microsoft. Our IT can't get around that. It takes weeks for my group requests to be approved and really ties up onboarding. Is there a way around this? Or any other way that I could get the same result minus the hectic waiting for groups to be granted access?57Views0likes1CommentPlanner - Plan 1 - Welcome message
Hi, we're using Teams for managing our projects. We have Team "Projects" and there are many channels inside this Team. Each channel represent our project (we are HVAC company). With the basic Planner, I used to create channel "Mr. Newman" - inside that channel we have all files related to that project, we have discussions about that project and we also have Planner assigned to that project. Which works well. Since we are growing, I wanted to test the Planner Plan 1 (I like the Goals, timelines etc), however, there is a huge problem that when I create the Planner now (the premium one), it sends an E-mail to everyone. I don't want that. All of the employees are getting emails that they have been added to the planner "Mr. Newman" etc. and they are asking what should they do with that? How do I turn that off? Thanks, Jakub45Views0likes0CommentsConnecting Planner tasks to employee goals/OKRs - anyone figured this out?
My manager wants us to tie our daily Planner tasks back to our quarterly OKRs but theres no native way to do this. I spent a couple hours trying to set up a Power Automate flow that updates an Excel tracker whenever a Planner task gets completed but it feels hacky. Is there a cleaner way to connect what people are actually doing in Planner to higher level goals?65Views0likes1CommentPerformance Issues
I'm experiencing significant lag and performance issues using Planner premium in both Edge and Teams. I'm on a brand new i7 PC with 64GB of RAM and 1GB fiber, so I know it's not my hardware... Examples of stalling: When creating tasks in Grid view, after adding a 3rd or 4th task, when I tab off of the Title field it will revert back to the default text, ignoring my input. This breaks my flow state and severely slows me down. When assigning tasks, I'll often have someone selected and hit Enter but the UX is still rendering some random person that isn't included in the permission group, then prompting me to add them. It's soooo slow. Ultimately, I've just procured a premium license, was excited to try the features, thought it would fit my use case, rolled it out to dozens of executives, and now have egg on my face for a horrible user experience. What gives?492Views2likes6CommentsTimeline zoom
Hello, Is there a way to lower the zoom level in the Timeline view to less than 1 week? I have a couple projects with multiple dependent task per day but if I use the maximum zoom level in the Timeline view I don’t get a good overview of the different task in for example a 4 day period. I was expecting a Gantt chart like view, like what you have in Microsoft Project, in where you can zoom to a minute level granularity even.56Views0likes0CommentsCan I delete or reorder the un-used labels in Planner?
I noticed that there are a lot more color labels in Planner and picked the brighter colors that are lower in the drop-down list. When I use "Group By Labels" to view my planner according to these color labels, my tasks are listed way to the right end side of the board, with a bunch of empty color label columns I didn't use. I tried re-ordering and deleting those un-used color labels but I can't seem to find the features. This really defeats the purpose of adding all the new labels...44KViews28likes28CommentsPremium Planner compatible apps?
Has anyone found any 3rd party solutions to bridge the gap on some of the shortfalls of Planner Premium? I'm really looking for something that my field team can use to access Planner tasks on their mobile devices. Also, for management, I need a solution that allows them to track tasks assigned to their team members across multiple open plans/projects. Thanks for any suggestions! Also, if Microsoft is working on any of these solutions, please put out some communications to help us explain to our bosses that something is being done.125Views0likes1CommentTask closing approval
Hello, There is 3 task status: Not starting, In Progress, Completed. Could it be possible to add an intermediate status before closing a task : - I would like to introduced a facultative intermediate status such as Closing pending/Closing approval. I would like to choose which assignee could close a task. It migh be diferent than the one who will complete the checklist. The status could be automatically enabled when all the checklist is completed. We need clarification from Microsoft on whether this is a bug or an intentional breaking change. Overnight and without any announcement, the msdyn_project table now ships with display name Project / Projects in newly provisioned environments. Dev and UAT environments provisioned a few months ago have Plan / Plans out of the box. All environments are running the exact same PSCore version: 1.0.163.730. The entity is as expected, marked non-renameable — read-only in the maker portal — so there is no way to align environments manually. Solution import from an existing environment (where msdyn_project = "Plan") into a newly provisioned Production environment fails with: 0x8004023B: Entity 44286cce-2389-4532-ac04-7a18a2818e9a is not a renamable entity. Hence Entity Display Name cannot be modified The only workaround — and why it is not acceptable It is technically possible to manually edit customizations.xml inside the solution ZIP before importing, removing the <DisplayName> node for msdyn_project. The import will then succeed, but Production will permanently show "Project" while Dev and UAT show "Plan" — a broken inconsistency across environments. More importantly, this is not how ALM is supposed to work. Developers should never have to manually patch solution artifacts to work around a platform-level inconsistency introduced silently by Microsoft. This is incompatible with automated CI/CD pipelines and unsustainable for any team managing multiple environments. The question for Microsoft Is this a bug or a planned change? If it is a bug: when will it be fixed, and is there a supported workaround in the meantime? If it is a planned change: why was it not communicated, and what is the supported migration path for teams with existing environments and solutions? [UPDATE]: After 3 attempts of resetting and reprovisioning the Production environment, msdyn_project finally came up with Plan / Plans — same process, same PSCore version each time. The behavior is non-deterministic. The only workaround currently available is to keep resetting your environment until you get lucky, which is not an acceptable answer for any type of deployment.85Views0likes0Comments
