Upcoming Planner release @chat feature

in the upcoming release of Planner features, it mentions that the comments will be replaced with a chat. Do I assume that the chat and @mentions are tied to who is assigned to the Task? ie. if the Task is assigned to Mary, will I be able to type Mary but I won't be able to type John (as John is not assigned the task)?

  • Tasks chats in basic plans will allow team members to collaborate directly on tasks using rich text formatting and @mentions, making it easier to discuss work and notify teammates about what needs attention.

If there already was some comments, than in this moment from teams, you cant start the task chat.
You need to open app planner in web, and start it only there, and only after that you can continue it true the teams.

Roadmap says this has been launched but we still don't have it -- and I'm in preview/targeted release. We need to communicate on this change -  and you would think that those of us in preview and targeted release woul have seen it by now.

  • Hi Elizabeth!

This feature has already been enabled. It is called "Task Conversation". The button appears at the bottom of the details for a task. In my experience, people must be manually added to the chat. You can tag all the members of the channel or add specific people. They don't need to be assigned the task.

Thanks Tim. I have seen the feature you're referring to. I'm referring to a different feature that has been announced as part of Microsoft Major release

I don't see this feature anywhere on my planner, in the teams integration or on the web.

  • What I meant to mention in my question above is... can you @mention someone who is assigned as a member of the Microsoft 365 Group attached to the Planner board? i.e. can you @mention someone who has access to the Planner board ? or only the person assigned to the Task?
