2026.02.20 - Planner UI update is worse
The UI changes to Planner within the latest Teams desktop app update (version 26032.208.4399.5) has regressed in its functionality and is worse than before. Previously, all of the contents of an item in the Planner were visible at the same time. Now I have to tab between Task Details, Attachments and Checklist, and am unable to view these at once, which has become a critical workflow for me. It is extremely irritating, as I've developed a workflow around how Planner was presented (which was that everything within a task was visible at once), and now it has been compartmentalised.
Please unwind this - it is a regressive update and provides less information and requires more interaction to work through the detail of a task.

I manage a global business and previously encouraged the organisation to use Planner as it was free and increased the ROI for our M365 subscription.
I am in the middle of a project with team members of varying technical capability scattered across the globe. I have wasted a couple hours this morning trying to conjure up a communication that explains the latest updates. I can't. The latest release is a pile of rubbish, impossible to use and impossible to explain.
Microsoft - what are you thinking? I really do not understand who your target audience is with the latest change. - Amanda CullenCopper Contributor
It took away the main reason our team used it, the permanent comments.

You guys really missed the boat with this one. Its so bad that I really am curious how these people were hired.

This new UI is a step backwards. I get that people naturally resist change at first, but Microsoft keeps making interfaces more spaced out and less information-dense, which is frustrating in a business environment where efficiency matters.
I can now only see about half of what fit on screen before. Even my Planner board headers are cut off because the font sizes and spacing have been increased unnecessarily.
Microsoft has a bad habit of redesigning UIs without solving an actual problem. A lot of these changes feel like they’re being made by people who don’t actively use the tools day to day in real working environments.

What on earth were you thinking with this!!!!! Let's make everything worse and give no options to customise or rollback.
Making such a huge change to the task layout has had such a negative impact on my team. Not providing a rollback option or settings to allow the layout of a task to be set per planner is absolutely ridiculous. The checklist being above the notes is the worst part of the update for us and that was the crux of your stupid update. Everything is so big and it is difficult to see all the information we need to quickly. Super unimpressed and we were about to upgrade to Premium Planner - now my team and I hate this product and I am looking for a new solution.- MiqiTayBrass Contributor
There is also a bug where you cannot highlight or copy text from a task and you have to exit and go back in. Terrible update - I am disgusted!!

We just got this update, and I hate it. I can't even see the full comment (sorry Task Chat) without scrolling sideways. It wouldn't be a Microsoft product if it didn't get worse over time.

Looks like we lost the ability to use phases in grid view.. great job MS team! You removed a critical project planning requirement. Also how about that delete button. I created a new test project to make sure it was a properly created premium one, and now the delete button is gone!

Many can't click on the attachments in each tasks. Instead they have to copy the link and then go to a browser to open the file link which makes it inefficient.

Yes I just got hit with the update and it has set me back hours on the day and the layout is simple terrible. Harder to see everything at once, extra scrolling and clicking, exactly what the customer experience research point against. Why did they change it?

I agree the new layout is horrible.

Yes, I too hate these changes very much. So much, that I'm willing to shop around for another solution!
I need more clicks for the same tasks.
I can't use the comments for accountabilty anymore (the "Chat" doesn't send mails!).
I hate having to switch between details and checklist.
And I still can't paste a picture into the comments (chat) - a feature I've been requesting for years.
