Cannot Pin Online Word Document to Recent Files List in Word 2019

Copper Contributor

Hello! I am co-authoring a large document with several different users in Word. We started several years ago using Word 2013. I uploaded the document to our SharePoint so we could all edit collaboratively. I pinned the online document to the top of my recent documents list to make it easily accessible by just opening Word. This worked flawlessly for years, but my organization just made us update to 2019 and it seems as though I can no longer pin online/shared documents to the recent list! Non-shared files, even those stored on a network drive and not on my local machine, pin just fine. Is there a setting I need to tweak somewhere to get back this capability? Or was there a change made and this useful capability is no longer available? Thanks!

@db8673 I am not sure how much difference there is between Sharepoint and OneDrive in this connection, but in Microsoft 365, I cannot replicate the issue with a document that is located on OneDrive and is set to be shared by anyone who has a link to it.

I have had this problem with Word for a couple years now. Documents I pinned before April 2022 stay pinned, but I can't pin anything new. This is my post in the community forum. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/word-365-unable-to-pin-docs-to-list-from-task...

This happens whether the document is on my desktop or in an online space.

I just recently found this thread, but haven't tried it yet. https://superuser.com/questions/1419843/fix-corrupt-pinned-microsoft-word-icon
