SharePoint 2016 - Browser Edge - You will need a new app to open this word

Hi Everyone,

My client got all time this message on Sharepoint 2016 search results when he trying open word documents: You will need a new app to open this word.

I know that Edge, is not the right choice for SharePoint, and there are some issues about it, i would like to know how can i solve this issue and if it is any extra configuration to solve it and continues using Edge.

Hi Fábio, check out this post and the replies for someone that had a very similar issue and was able to resolve it:

The suggestions are to check the file associations and make sure that Word is registered accordingly for MS-WORD and I'd have a look at .docx as well:

This helped one person and another ran the Office quick repair, which resolved it for them.

Solved this problem by going to "Add or Remove Programs", finding the Office application, clicking Modify button, and then choosing Quick Repair.

I had 2 Office programs showing with the exact same install date.  I just did the first one.  All works fine now.
