I'm not sure that I ever used the "configure views for this location" feature for it's intended use (ie: with metadata navigation), but I did use it pretty extensively to obfuscate data in lists or libraries. That is, I would create a view that showed data that met specific criteria so that I could use that as the selected view in a LVWP or just give them a link to it, then remove that view from the generally-available drop-down to hide that data from people who shouldn't see it. I was always clear with clients that this was not actually "securing" the data, so it wasn't appropriate for cases where real security was needed. However, it was a handy way to hide info where the risk of exposure was minimal.
In any event, this function does not exist in Modern List Views yet, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of another way to accomplish the same or a similar function.
