We are thrilled to announce the public preview of Azure Remote Rendering support for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro virtual reality headsets! Remote Rendering is an Azure service that enables developers to render insanely high-quality interactive 3D content and stream it to devices like Microsoft HoloLens 2 or desktops/laptops in real time. Azure Remote Rendering is great for visualizing complex geometry and point cloud scan data. One of the unique things about Azure Remote Rendering is that it utilizes hybrid rendering, meaning your remote content is seamlessly combined with locally rendered content. This also provides developers with an easy way to integrate Azure Remote Rendering into existing applications and use when needed.

With our new support for Quest 2 and Quest Pro, you can now easily integrate powerful Azure cloud rendering capabilities in these devices. We’ve added this feature in a way that doesn’t change how you use the service. Supporting the Quest 2 and Quest Pro has been one of the top feature requests from partners and developers, and we can’t wait to see what you build with it!

As always, getting started is simple. To try out this new functionality you can head to our documentation and follow the updated guide for building for Meta Quest. If you are already using Azure Remote Rendering, you can leverage the same storage and Remote Rendering accounts you’ve been using by simply mimicking the configuration you’ve already implemented and then build for Quest 2 and Quest Pro with the new SDK.

Customers have been doing amazing things with Azure Remote Rendering on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro, including enabling pass-through, which allows users to “see through” the display to get a view of their physical surroundings! Here are a couple of partners that have been using Meta Quest support in Azure Remote Rendering:
