Windows 11 Global Mute (Windows + Alt + K) not working in New Microsoft Teams

Copper Contributor

Good morning,

The old Microsoft Teams used to support the Global Mute shortcut within Windows 11.  The upgraded version, New Microsoft Teams, no longer supports the Global Mute (Win + Alt + K) as far as I can tell. When I invoke the shortcut I get a message "No supported apps in use for mic mute".

I know that there is a built-in keyboard shortcut within New Teams (Ctrl + Shift + M) but the issue with that shortcut is that Teams needs to be active.  Is the Global mute going to be added eventually to New Teams?

Same issue here.

I got a forced update to the "new" teams and since then global mute doesnt work.

I posted it here on the answers.microsoft site : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/new-teams-does-not-recognise-the-global-mute/b...

It seems Microsoft is finally on the case. It's noted as "in development" and rollout should start in June 2024. Let's cross our fingers.

Thanks for posting this! good news

@ArianeBConformit the feature was rolled out and I can toggle the windows mic mute with Win+Alt+K but that does not affect the mic status in the new teams, I still have to mute it separately.

@igor_n  well that's pathetic. Hopefully it's an easy fix on their side.

I'm keeping hope as long as it's "rolling out", not as the last step on their scale.

Looks like Microsoft pushed an update to New Teams and this shortcut is now working.

AS of June 24th 2024 It works for me. My teams version is below

You have Microsoft Teams version 24137.2216.2931.2440.

@Ryan2569 can confirm, it's working for me now as well. Finally! My version is 24137.2216.2931.2440 as well

I have 24152.412.2958.9166 and still doesn't work... Is there anything I can do? Maybe reinstall it?

@Miguelus_Prime I have the same version right now as well and it's working for me. Try fully closing and reopening teams, sometimes when it's misbehaving that does the trick for me. Otherwise try reinstalling, but maybe they're still in the process of rolling it out to everyone.

@Miguelus_Prime Same issue for me with  24152.412.2958.9166.  The global mute shortcut seems now to be recognized by teams, but it does not change the mute on the current teams meeting or on my speaker phone like it did with the old teams.

I have verson 24152.415.2975.367 of teams (Client version 49/24053101421). The icon on the taskbar toggles when I press Win-Alt-K, but it does not toggle the mic in the meeting that currently in progress.

@bulldog21  Little time after my post, New Teams showed an update message, I launch it and after the install started to work.

My version now is: 24165.1412.2980.1761

@Miguelus_Prime Thanks, I actually found out that when I repaired my current version it began to work as well.
