We are pleased to announce the August 2018 release of the Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), which includes the following key updates.

Virtual network (VNET) guidance for DMS service creation
In this release, we updated the Virtual Network (VNET) selection experience during Azure DMS service creation to help ensure that users select the VNET/Subnet that provides Azure DMS with connectivity to their source and target servers.  The new experience provides a list of all the available VNET/Subnets in the selected subscription and location. In addition, whether or not the listed VNETs provide site-to-site connectivity between on-premises network and Azure is also indicated.

SQL Server to Azure SQL Database Managed Instance migration updates
Azure DMS now provides support for using existing database backups for SQL Server to Azure SQL Database Managed Instance migrations.  If database backups are already being taken as part of your disaster recovery plan, DMS can now leverage those backups and for migrations.  If you do not want Azure DMS to use existing backups, the service can take the database backups first and the use them for migrations. DMS also supports migrating source SQL Server databases with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) enabled.

We hope that you will take advantage of the Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) and the other tools ( Data Migration Assistant , SQL Server Migration Assistant , Database Experimentation Assistant ) that the Data Migration Team has to offer.
