We are seeing an issue with applying a new Retention Policy to Microsoft 365 Group mailboxes & sites.
We have a current 7 Year Retention Policy in place which covers the following areas:
- Exchange mailboxes
- SharePoint classic and communication sites
- OneDrive accounts
- Microsoft 365 Group mailboxes & sites
We have applied two new Retention Policies in a project to reduce the Preservation Hold Library storage in these areas. The end plan is to have these areas in individual policies leaving the Exchange mailboxes covered with this original policy. (as mailboxes can't have more than one policy assigned.)
New retention policy which only targets M365 Group Sites.
New retention policy which only targets SharePoint Classic and Communication Sites.
The new retention policy targeting Microsoft 365 Group Sites policy is not applying however the new policy targeting SharePoint Classic and Communications Sites is being applied.
The M365 Group Mailboxes have been excluded from the new retention policy as they are not in scope by running:
Set-RetentionCompliancePolicy -Identity “Policy Name” - applications Group:SharePoint
The Policy Lookup tool shows only the original policy is being applied to the M365 Group Sites.
The new policies were created over two weeks ago giving enough time to apply.
We have a support ticket open on this but open to any suggestions as to why this is not applying.
