If it's a Password to Open an Excel 2007 or later file (xlsx format), brute force is unfortunately the only option. The time it takes depends on the complexity of the password and the processing power of your PC. You can speed up the process by using GPU acceleration on graphics cards. However, if it's a password for earlier versions of Excel (xls files with a 40-bit key), it can be decrypted without a password by simply selecting the encryption key. @vedangbapna did you tried that with Open Office already? In 2010 i was able to recover my hidden Data using that "trick"
